Resident Evil 4 Set for September 2010

Source:  ShockTillYouDrop
ShockTillYouDrop.com has reported that Sony's Screen Gems is planning a September 17, 2010 release for Resident Evil 4, which could go by the title Resident Evil: Afterlife. The third film, Resident Evil: Extinction, left the door wide open for another installment, which will take place in Tokyo, Japan.

Paul W.S. Anderson revealed late last year he was indeed writing the next film, but no word on whether he will direct.

No word on when production will begin.

im pretty excited for another resident evil film and i really hope they make a sequel to degeneration i bought it the other day its awesome with amazing cgi graphics.

Damn i wanted a CGI Resident Evil film. I liked Degeneration. Plot was abit loose but nothing beats graphics. They should make another Cgi film.

I've read some of his books, he's really good at it. One of them was made into a game for the WII. The game is all right, but it needs to play out a bit more like the other games.
I heard there is going to be a CGI cartoon show of it, not sure if it's true or not.
I would like to see a RE game based in the far future.

That's why i reckon they need to kno the borderline.

Be a fan, keep it to a fans expectations, not too high and not too low.
But they should know when they are splitting the borderline between game and film .

They shouldn't let it get to their head, i agree and shouldn't go all out crazy on it, it should stay faithful to the game if it can be work that way into a film format medium

I almost bought Prototype, but so many people told me it sucked. Dead Space is great. Resident Evil in Space. But i got disagree that the writer should be a fan. It's great that he would like it the game but as far as being a fan, no way. I think too much fanaticism will get too much into the writers head and they'll go write some crazy ass shit.

I concur with you looool, and i like how you mentioned a few and even assigned directors looool.

I got Dead Space have yet to play the game, Prototype was good pretty weak difficulty wise and could be interesting if made more independent visually not hollywood, i'd like to see MB tackle that.

But alas due to my final note.
Although i agree with you on game to film adaptations receiving their own genres as you much stated like, comic to film adaptations.
I reckon that what these kind of projects need is a writer, that knows the game inside and out and is thinking on the same mindset that the creators of the game were thinking on when they made that game, also the writer should be a fan of the game, not just some random screenwriter.

In general my belief is that its the mindset of the writer that counts and the director and producer have to be on the same mindset as that writer.

Game adaptations could take on a genre of their own(much like comic book movies have) if they were put into the right hands. Like J.A. said, I've played many games that, given the right writer and director, would make great movies, such as:

Bioshock-Gore Verbinski has been assigned to this as director, but the guy seems to be more interested in doing a fucking Clue movie. I say drop him, make the the film a prequel to the original game based on the audio diaries, and hand it over to David Fincher. It could be to video game movies what TDK was to comic book movies.

Dead Space-The game is some of the scariest shit I've ever laid witness to, and one of its numerous inspirations is Alien. With that in mind, give it to the man who originally scared the shit out of us: Ridley Scott.

Prototype-the game is nothing but action. It has an intriguing story that is glazed over with shot after shot of concussive explosions and loud noises...Michael Bay. Perfect.

Assassin's Creed-this game has often been referred to as "flawed genius" and is very repetitive, not giving much room for an adaptation. However, a good writer could adapt an original story out of the ideas presented here. That just leaves someone to adapt that story: Zack Snyder. AC's visual style has been referred to as the high light of the game, making Snyder the perfect fit given his unique visuals. Plus, slo-mo assassin kills...duh.

Mass Effect-If Peter Jackson is still interested in doing a sci-fi game adaptation, let him take a crack at this. Not as producer, either. ME is an epic journey, and Jackson is a master of epic. It's a sci-fi Lord of the Rings, and what better person to direct than the guy who did LotR. I would say Zack Snyder, but I already gave him AC.

The only real RE Movie, that is real canon, is the CG movie Degeneration. And the 3rd film sucked balls.

The 3rd film was the best one.

Ok lets clear the factual evidence here...

Could Jackson do a Justifiable HALO MOVIE?

Peter Jackson was going to do HALO, justice, ok he was assigned to the significant role of Producer / Exec Producer, he wasn't attached as director or screenwriter.
If any one was going to lay judgement on HALO it would be Neil Blomkamp (District 9, Transformers car advert, i think Renault) and of course Alex Garland (The Beach) as forBlomkamp was assigned the position of director and Garland as screenwriter.
I though Garland's was well written, but the didn't like the end how it left it open to go to Reach, and well Master Chief talked a damn fucking lot, so your theory inevidenably fails, on Halo being done justice.
But i mean let's face it just the names Peter Jackson & if Spielberg got attached would have sold the film any way, especially with the reputation that the Halo Franchise has received during its course.

Can games be adapted into film well?

Yes they can, be adapted quite perfectly as well, i've played many games and thought they would make great films.
But you see the problem is that when Hollywood announce a new game to film adaptation, passion flies out the window in deprieve of money. Sometimes i wonder if any of these screenwriters that write these game to film adaptations even play the game...they probably just look at wikipedia for the plot and search game play footage on youtube.

But you see once the price tag is laid on these game to film adaptations, these is no longer the passion of writing the project for the sake of it, or doing it for the fans. The are writing just to pay the bills and with the little research they've done, they believe they are being justifiable to the fans perspective of what that game would look like when adapted to film.

But the other major problem is that fans raise their expectations too high.

And if you want the answer to your question...

COULD PETER JACKSON DO HALO JUSTICE?

WELL THEN MESSAGE ME, ON MY PAGE AND I'LL SEND YOU THE OFFICIAL SCRIPT TO THE HALO MOVIE

I agree with Newkill... who knows if jackson would make a good halo film, i would like to say yes but every director has there one turd they like to squeeze out. LOTR series was great but alot of people expected king kong to blow records up, but did not do as well as expected. Not to say it was not good, but just talking to people about it, most have said it was mediocre. back to topic though, i say squash the series it ran out of steam about 25 minutes before the first one was released.

newkill, why is my comment stupid?.i cant think of any movie based on a video game that was any good, and games based on movies are pretty fuckin lame to say the least.BUT,if anyone is gona pull it off i would say,IN MY OPINION,it would be jackson.so with all due respect, you shut the fuck up.

i liked the first 2 but i think either A revamp and bring actual characters from the game or B just kill it cus the third did suck big donkey cahones

oh,i forgot to mention, paul w.s anderson has made some of the crappest movies of the last 10 years in my opinion, mortal combat anyone?.video games do not make good movies, and movies do not make good video games, lets just leave both mediums to do their own thing.unless peter jackson done halo ofcoarse, now that would fuckin rock!

Absolutely right, Avenger. And as far as the side story concept goes, I think it would be awesome if they had this chick from the movies meet up and get into a brawl with Wesker, and it could be during the time when Wesker was kinda out of the spotlight in videogame-RE4 when he wasn't talking to Ada. But I doubt they'll do that.

I dont usualy say this but i gotta agree with Newkill. after the second her character went to shit. An Leo you bring up a good point too in Wesker he was another badass character that needed some screen time. Although i like your opinion in that its like a side story, how much more badass would it b to see our Fav characters act out on screen to those climactic battles granted we all played in the games but it would be cool to see in the theartre am i right?

July 3rd, 2009 9:05pm
To answer your question Avenger, I like to view these movies as a SIDE STORY that happened DURING the games that us gamers never saw. And besides, Chris Redfield was in the second movie, which was BASICALLY Videogame-Version-RE-2-and-3. So there you go. I can't wait for this! The first three were awesome!

And as far as best character goes, I disagree with ALL OF YOU.

ALBERT WESKER PWNS ALL. except for Chris. Who pwned him. But Wesker's still way cooler than Chris.
