Sam Raimi Talks Spider-Man 4 and Evil Dead Remake

Source:  IGN, MTV
MTV chatted with Spider-Man 4 director Sam Raimi on Sunday who just announced a release date of May 6, 2011 for the project last week.

Raimi confirmed that he and "the writers and producers are working out what the story will be, but haven't been talking in terms of Part 4 and 5." He also stated that they are only working on the 4th film, and contrary to rumors, not the 5th film.

"All the characters or villains or villains, whatever we decide to do will be from Stan Lee's creations or those that came after him," he said.

He also commented on whether or not Kirsten Dunst will return as Mary Jane Watson. Raimi said, "I can't imagine making a 'Spider-Man' movie without Kirsten. Of course it can be done because Spider Man has existed without the character of Mary-Jane but she's one of my favorite parts and it would be a shame not to have her in the picture. I'm hoping she'll be in it and I'm planning on having a story with her in it."

On The Evil Dead remake front, Raimi talked to IGN, and according to the horror helmer, he's dead keen to see a new director take on the original.

"I have talked with my partners about having a young director come in and remake Evil Dead," he revealed. "That film was made in 16mm on a shoestring budget and blown up to 35mm. The visual effects are crumby, it was done in mono, not even stereo, let alone 5.1. What you could do with it now would be so much better.

"I think if you had a new director using the full power of 35mm and 5.1 sound, you could really make a pretty socko presentation. It was always meant for the big screen, but never really seen on the big screen"

I couldnt agree more "Silent R". Unless i scream i hate spider-man 3 while wearing a FUCK SPIDEY T-shirt. I just dont want to be an extremist. Im really loosing faith in Raimi (as i said b4) hopefully Marvel will stop this spidey slaughter and make S4 the "CHEESE" (that means really good chronic)

I remember reading a few spidey comics where he was fighting Dr. Doom and Juggernaut, who I think would be great Spiderman villians if they hadn't been used in other Marvel films. I liked Julian as Dr. Doom, but FF was kinda lame, he was the best part. Juggernaut was also one of the best parts about X-Men 3, mainly because it was Vinnie lol.

Well obviously, Rhino would have to be strictly CGI like The Hulk style lol. Not as a main character, just as a enforcer of chaos like Scorpion.

well they could put her in there for a scene or two

they could have her moving out of town or something

and then if there is a 5th film have her return to Queens in that one

What's the point in getting someone new for the final film when he's been in them from the start? One more movie won't hurt his daughter, especially after he rakes in all that cash

March 17th, 2009 7:10pm
Well in all respect I see your point but two main reasons for replacement before or after a fifth: He is getting older and he "should" have some part in raising his daughter. Joseph Gordon Levitt just comes to mind. But who knows what the future has for this series.

OH, sorry Party Boy, I forgot about The Evil Dead remake...my bad

@Zany: Thanks. I think more than two villains can work if they handle it the right way(like my plots ha)

@ Dr. Carter: Thanks, man. I know Gwen isn't Felicia Hardy, but I thought it could work in this set up...I think it's better than bringing in yet ANOTHER girlfriend, ya know? About MJ, I figured, since her and Peter are no longer married in the comics, it would be okay to kill her off

@PARTY Boy: He's not "remaking" shit...this is a sequel...Spider-Man 4...ya know, it comes after 3?

@ Slim: Tobey is already signed on for 4 and 5, so it wouldn't make sense to get a new lead for the last one, ya know?

@ Chad: Thanks, and yes, Vulture has to be one of the most lame ass villains ever lol I didn't want to include Rhino, though...I don't think it would work well on screen.

@ JJ: I actually did this for another Spidey thread a while ago just copied and pasted them...but what did you think of them anyways?

Evil Dead is my all time favorite horror movie, DONT REMAKE IT! As for Spiderman we better see The Lizard or im not waisting my time.

Great news for spider-man 4. Not so great for Evil Dead. Seriously, no more remakes. And if you insist that it must be done, please get Bruce Campbell back at least. No one can play Bruce Campbell except Bruce Campbell. Got it?

I'm glad he's talking about spiderman 4 but i'd just wish they wouldn't remake the evil dead its like over the last few years theres been too many great films from the 80's thats been ruined by remakes! And the evil dead is a film that shouldn't be remade its perfect!

Vis I liked your 6th film rundown the most. I think a epic multi-villian battle is the only way they should end spiderman (if it stops at 6 that is). I liked your choice of villians too, I'm so happy you didn't add The Vulture who is possibly one of the gayest villians ever lol. I doubt the Kingpin thing would work. I thought Rhino would be a cool threat, special effects wise he would be amazing. Destroying the city running through buildings, tossing over cars downtown etc. Causing pure chaos. I like the idea of Rhino, Mysterio, Electro, Scorpion, The Lizard, and maybe even Hobgoblin (which they basically did with Harry in the 3rd film but they called him the new Green Goblin which was just dumb lol).

I think these enemies have good pairings, doing different tasks. Rhino, Scorpion, and Electro blowing shit up downtown causing all hell lol. While Mysterio, and The Lizard blackmail the government or try to manipulate them to get whatever the hell it is they want.

To Vis' cast list down there: with the way Spider-Man is going, when it comes to years, don't you think Tobey Maguire will be too old to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man? The closest I could come up with is Joseph Gordon Levitt to take his position. Bryce Dallas Howard as Gwen and Black Cat- too much, it will confuse the "average" movie goer. Beside that, nothing really. I like the Billy Zane addition it's pretty creative (I've only seen him in Titanic and Zoolander). Andy Serkis is cool too. Gerard Butler would make a cool Kraven but i always thought of it in terms of Clive Owen. Hmmm Hugo Weaving? You may have something there.

Okay, I may just have to go and kill somebody after hearing this BS news. Raimi is basically saying, "Yep - we cut James Vanderbilt from writing duties and gave David Lindsay-Abaire the job, and oh yeah, James' story arc that was going to continue for two movies (4 and 5) and have us filming 4 and 5 consecutively? We threw that out the window, and now I'm working with the new writer on what the story will be now. And we're not doing 5 right now." Which tells me that there may not BE a Spidey 5 after all is said and done, because they let Vanderbilt go. Somehow I knew the whole 4/5 story thing was too good to be true. Now it's gonna be ANOTHER Raimi-induced story that will SUCK along the lines of 3. Boo

VIS, I have to hand it to you those were some good ass plots. I loved the way you used the Carnage from the Ultimate universe. There's just two things Mary Jane can't be killed off. She plays a pivotal role in the Peters life and the Marvel Universe ( Ex: Spider-Girl). Second is Gwen Stacy as Black Cat that just not in the comics because it is actually Felica Hardy. Other than that your plots are gold.

Nice "synopsis" for the "future" Spidey films, Vis.
They should stick to no more than two villain. (Though I have no excessive qualms with the third film; I liked the formula of the first two a lot. Stick to it {no pun intended}).

CBjunior, Rachel Dawes is a character created by Chris Nolan so he could do whatever he wanted with her. MJ, however, is an important part of Spidey's mythology. While I agree she should be killed off(take a peek at my plot ideas), your choice of examples weren't that great
