it's a good thing i am boycotting fox. LOL.
I like Michael Clarke Duncan & Neal McDonough, ok he don't look fab as Bison, but his a great actor same as Michael Clarke Duncan (MCD), whom is literally the best actor in this film, my opinion.
Although despite how much i enjoy MCD, i would have preferred Michael Jai White as Balrog, the dude that played Spawn, he also recently played Gambit in The Dark Knight, the one that ordered the hit on Joker and got the knife in the mouth.
Also to spoog, i get your point, but for people to see a movie specifically based upon that character, despite that character isn't the main star of the franchise, the character needs a big enough fan base for people to be interested to see that film.
It's like them doing a spin-off mortal kombat backstory of i don't know someone like Sonya Blade or Goro (the dude with the 4 or 6 arms)
I have to begrudgingly admit that between 'Dragonball' and 'Chun Li,' 'Chun Li's' fight choreography is much more exciting. I think 'Dragonball E' will be the movie that's in trouble in 2009. :(
Example say Street Fighter or think it, what is the most automatic thing or word that comes in your head or out of your mouth.
The Majority of the next words from fans will be either 'Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Bison, Hadouken'
Now how many people do you think will say Chun Li?
She doesn't have a big enough fan-base to carry her own movie.
For example Vamp, your one might be 'Rose'
When people think Street Fighter they automatically think Ryu & Ken.
Their target auidence are gamers and martial arts / action fans.
Gamers will panned this due to the fact that there is no Ryu or Ken just like anime/action/movie/Dragon Ball fans panned Dragon Ball Evolution because Piccolo wasn't green.
Martials Arts / Action fans will just see it as another martial arts film.
Me i see it as a poor excuse for a Martial Arts film with Street Fighter's name slapped on it to appeal to Gamers to gain more profit, there is also nothing in the trailer that appealled me to say 'Awesome.'
Same way i saw the DBE trailer, it looks like cheese with blackbelts, fireballs and martial arts (lol that's funny).
Also you are correct on the simple fact that this is Chun Li's backstory, so that doesn't mean Ryu & Ken have to be in it. But when people hear that a 'Street Fighter' movie based on the game is on the way, they expect Ryu & Ken to be in it.
When they find out the only original characters in the film that are from the game are Bison, Chun Li, Balrog & Vega.
They'll lose interest in wanting to see the film.
Its demographics
And DragonBall will be right behind it ;)
I smell DBE & Street Fighter going for the raspberry awards.
Worst Movie of 2009
Street Fighter Vs Dragon Ball (now that's a toughy)
Nice poster, though.
It's a shame the film ain't as awesome as this poster.
No Ryu, Ken, Akuma = Fail
The only interesting thing here is a smoking hot kristin kreuk and the dude's playing Balrog (Michael Clarke Duncan) & Bison (Neal McDonough), they are good actors, but no one can top Raul Juila as Bison.
But i am interested to see how Taboo from Black-Eyed Peas plays Vega.
