Angels & Demons, Ron Howard's follow-up to
The Da Vinci Code, failed to stir up much controversy this past week. But that didn't stop Robert Langdon from racing into the top spot on the box office charts this weekend. The Dan Brown adaptation didn't achieve the same opening weekend success that its predecessor received when it premiered back in May of 2006, when
The Da Vinci Code pulled in an impressive $77 million, nearly double that of this new adventure. But it is still being considered a modest summer hit.
Star Trek continued to go at warp speed, pulling in another $43 million during its second weekend of release. That puts its cumulative grosses at $147 million, making it the most successful
Star Trek film of all-time. While no sequel has been announced yet, its speculated that a second film will go into pre-production before the end of the year.
The only other major film to be released this weekend was the Steve Zahn/Jennifer Aniston comedy
Management. It opened in 212 theaters, pulling in an estimated $378,000 to take the number 16 spot on the box office charts. The film with the highest per screen average was
Summer Hours, which opened in two theaters, pulling in $48,200. Following in second place was the highly touted
The Brothers Bloom, which nabbed $82,000 on four screens.
Next weekend belongs to one man, and he is John Connor! That's right, America.
Terminator Salvation is finally making its debut, and Robert Langdon doesn't stand a chance.

It was cool.
I dunno about T4 being number one next week, i see NOTM2 snagging it.
2 reasons
T4 ain't been released over here and its getting very awful reviews makings it decreasing in cinema screens over here in the UK.
But i'm still up to seeing it.
NOTM2 is a family film and its in both the US & UK, means more profit.
Well "Star Trek" ...suckee ..I would give it a C- .....the film needed serious work ...
I went went with a total of 4 people ...all of us would give "Star Trek" C- to D+!
Nothing really new or thrilling .....
I loved the book: "The Da Vinci Code" ..but Ron Howard's film adaptation sucked ...he lost 1/2 th book on the floor ...that is why I didn't care to see "Angels & Demons" ...I will wait for cheap theater or DVD!
and i;m more impressed with Trek gettin that close to beating Angels and Demons then i am with Angels and Demon's numbers.
Also, Night at the Museum doesn't stand a chance, sure it will make a decent amount of money, but it's still going up against Terminator.
Didjya get it!?
each blockbuster should make their own success
man, Angels & Demons was a much larger step up from 'Da Vinci', God that movie was so slow and boring
can't wait to see how this weekend's competition dukes it out: Terminator: Salvation and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
Dance Flick might get lost somewhere
