It was
reported a few days ago that Warner Bros. was thinking of doing a complete overhaul on
Superman: The Man of Steel, completely redoing the franchise. Today, the
Wall Street Journal has confirmed from Warner Bros. Pictures Group president Jeff Robinov that this is exactly the path they are taking, which could be in the vein of
The Incredible Hulk that essentially ignored Ang Lee's 2003 film
Hulk. Here's an excerpt from the article.
Warner Bros. also put on hold plans for another movie starring multiple superheroes -- known as "Batman vs. Superman" -- after the $215 million
Superman Returns, which had disappointing box-office returns, didn't please executives. "'Superman' didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to," says Mr. Robinov. "It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned." "Had 'Superman' worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009," he adds. "But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all."
The article went on to say that Warner will be announcing its plans for future DC Comics movies next month and Robinov said that, "we're developing every DC character that we own."
The studio is set to announce its plans for future DC movies in the next month. For now, though, it is focused on releasing four comic-book films in the next three years, including a third Batman film, a new film reintroducing Superman, and two movies focusing on other DC Comics characters. Movies featuring Green Lantern, Flash, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman are all in active development.
Given the success of
The Dark Knight, Robinov also said he wants this new slate of films to be darker in tone and also said he expects at least two DC tentpole releases by 2011.
"We're going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it," Robinov said, while adding that this would apply to
Superman: The Man of Steel as well.
We'll be sure to keep you updated on Warner's upcoming DC Comics slate as well as any and all updates regarding
Superman: The Man of Steel.

Superman....Brandon Routhe? or some other "no name" actor.
Lana Lang....NOOOOO!, that would make the movie suck.
Lois Lane....Anyone, but make her childless.
...and add another villain into the mix (not Braniac, he's been done too much in the tv series Smallville. I think they need to do a remake of Superman 2, but make it an origin movie with Zod being the reason that Clark puts on the uniform to become Superman.
The interest for Brainiac to relevantly play into the Superman story in a film is widely considered as a fan-favorite. I think the story might make sense if it is told that when the planet of Colu is destroyed, the Brain InterActive Construct travels to the nearby planet of Krypton, where it is there that Jor-El comes into contact with the being. Sensing Krypton's destruction, Brainiac attempts to steal valuable Kryptonian knowledge from the world. Jor-El is the only one that knows, and tries to plea in front of the Elders of the High Council of Krypton's inevitable destruction, but is banned. He sends Kal-El to Earth...
Brainiac has been in at least 3 drafts for Superman movies, and at one point, was to follow The Death of Superman storyline for V by introducing Doomsday. My idea is rough, and just meant to tie Brainiac into the Krypton origin as the comic book does. I am not pitching a script here, I am simply giving an idea as to how this could be done. Another thing I will say is that if Kevin Spacey is to return as Lex Luthor, if the reboot is legit news, than a new take on his character would be fresh and more true to his comic counterpart. Where Lex is starting LexCorp, Brainiac could be the ultimate asset for him. And, if Supes defeats him once, Lex could rebuild him like in the comics and DCAU, making him bigger and stronger, and more of the machine he is.
BTW, here is the link to the original pitched idea of Superman III written by Ilya Salkind, with characters Brainiac, Mr. Mxyzptlk, and Supergirl:

lmao that would be so chaotic. They could even do cameos with other "smaller" heros like Green Arrow or Flash (bigger than Green Arrow but he still kinda unknown to the general public)...so those characters can get their own major blockbuster films one day...that won't suck or go straight to dvd lol.
(If you name drop Spiderman 3 I will bitch slap you...the only reason that movie didn't work was because Venom was gay...if he would have been bad ass, the 3 villians thing would have worked out just fine so I don't wanna hear anything about it)
But anyway...
just put them all in it. Darkseid, Bizarro, Brainiac, & Doomsday. Wow. Superman would have his hands full. But then again, he is Superman. He needs to live up to his name. Give him a very overwhelming challenge.
(btw this is totally ridiculous and would never happen in a movie due because people bitch about how a movie should always be in some type of movie structure that's cliche beyond reason and must have a happy ending- which is all bullshit if you ask me). Kill the Superman haha.
About Superman being "dark," he was dark when he was exposed to Red Kryptonite. Other than that, yes, he stood for everything good and true and therefore was not a dark character like Bats.
The movie needs to tell the story of Brainiac as well as Superman's origin / Krypton's destruction. Well, it doesn't HAVE to, but Brainiac should definitely be in there. I say 3rd time's the charm, time to ACTUALLY put him into a movie rather that just considering him. LexCorp would be cool to see, too.
Here's my idea....
