Jason took the box office this weekend, with his
Friday the 13th earning an estimated $42.2 million dollars. That is the biggest weekend take of the year thus far, and it beats the cumulative earnings of any previous
Friday the 13th ever released with the exception of
Freddy vs. Jason. This is certainly good news for both producers Platinum Dunes and longtime fans, as they are pretty much guaranteed a sequel now that their favorite slasher has proven his ability to hack up the bank.
In the second and third place spots were two holdovers from previous weeks. The romantic comedy
He's Just Not That Into You dropped down one space to number two with another $19.6 million to its name. In just two weeks, this Valentine-themed charmer has earned an estimated $55 million. Coming in at third is the little Fox action film that has surprised many.
Taken earned another $19.2 million, bringing its earnings up to $77.9 million. It should reach $100 million in the states before it completely drops off the top ten. Its current worldwide grosses stands at $146.9 million. That's a pretty decent take for a film that didn't really get any promotional push at all.
This week's other two major new releases didn't fair quite as well as their killer counterpart. Disney's consumer comedy
Confessions of a Shopaholic dropped in at number four with $15.4 million. And Sony's bank thriller
The International rested itself into the number seven position, only pulling in a lousy $10 million. We probably won't hear much from either of these two films in the coming weeks.
Next week will find Madea returning to the big screen in
Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail. And two horny teenage boys will join a cheerleading squad in
Fired Up. Who will win? It's anybody's guess.

"The International" was damn good. A very intelligent thriller.
I'm still still very surprised that Hollywood still can turn out "Original" ideas!!
"The International": A- A Must see!
However, I agree with the poster below about the annoying kids. I had a mom sit next to me tonight with two little kids. One kept screaming through out the entire movie and yelling out that he had to "do do"! The mom acted like she barely cared.
Also, the movie was sold out every time that I went to see it!
I'm not sure where to begin lol... I could start off by asking why pypebum is talking shit about me when I haven't even posted yet on this topic. Or, I can point out that most people who tell other people to suck cocks or whatever, are the insecure ones, and some tend to be actually gay. Pype, come out of the closet buddy, your over the top manly man shit is just coming off as pathetic and it's pretty obvious you are hiding your true identity. So let it out big guy, we won't listen but good luck.
Btw can anybody give me an actual intelligent breakdown of whether the movie is good or not. I love Jason's character, but I didn't care for the old movies. I actually liked Freddy vs Jason, even though it was kinda corny lol. Don't spoil anything for me, just tell me if it's worth my 8 bucks or not.
Personally, I think Madea's funny as hell.
But, "It's anybody's guess..."
ok i can go with that even though the movie was like whatever
