Warner Bros. is showing some puppy love for a recent book sensation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has acquired the film rights to the recent non-fiction book Nubs.

The book recounts the tale of U.S. Marine Brian Dennis, who took in a stray dog during a tour in Iraq and nursed it back to health. He then shipped the dog back home so he could take care of it back in the U.S. when his tour was over. Dennis wrote the book, which was just published two weeks ago, with Mary Nethery and Kirby Larson and the story has already been the center of media attention. Dennis and his fathful dog Nubs have recently appeared on talk shows such as The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.

The Bucket List screenwriter Justin Zackham will write the big-screen adaptation. The project grew out of Zackham's relationship with Dennis, after the writer contacted the Marine while he was in Iraq after word of his story started to get out.

No production schedule is set for the film.
