Warners Bros. and producer Dan Lin are in the early stages of developing a revamping the popular video game action franchise,
Tomb Raider.
According to
The Hollywood Reporter, the project is expected to revamp the character and her mission and bear little resemblance to the original pictures that starred Angelina Jolie:
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life. The new project will reimagine the origins of the character, her love interest and the main villain.
As an open-writing assignment, the project is still in its nascent stages. An actress who could play the role Angelina Jolie made famous would likely come on after a writer and director are attached.
Tomb Raider, which was published in 1996 by a London-based video game company called Eidos, was a wildly popular game that involved the daredevil archaeologist Lara Croft on a series of global missions. Several spinoff games have been published since, with a 10th-anniversary edition of the game released in 2006.
No production date has been set.

Fox is really the only one who's face fits, but she's so scrawny. Alison Carroll (her first film coming out this year, Doghouse) has the body for it, but her face is too cute, but, with make-up, they can make her look more serious. I personally don't want Jolie back. Everything about her didn't match the character to me. Oh well. Alison Carroll is my best vote, but I'll keep looking.
Eidos are going bankrupt, hence forth why this movie will move quick, so briefly it's like on a scale of 70% of sucking.
Foxx will probably get the role cause of eye candy.
The story will be weaked due to being rushed.
Love Interest...where the fuck that'd come from.
I say for these producers and writers and of course directors, play the games, read the comics, take some notes, write the script, redraft it a couple of times...And make something cool.
Don't rush it, it has potential.
I with the people that are dibbing Rhonda Mitra & Emily Blunt (never fought of her either).
And I agree with clockworkcookie. Just leave the love crap out, please. Seriously, it doesn't need it! Lara Croft is too much of a badass to settle down, anyway! LOL Just because she's hot doesn't mean she HAS TO get into a relationship. It's a cliche! LOL
Last I looked Lara Croft never had a love interest (according to the games, obviously), unless they mean Kurtis Trent and I think including an Angel of Darkness character in the movie would cause a riot among the game fans. XD But seriously, why do they feel the need to have Lara involved in a romantic relationship? Why can't we drop that cliche for a change?
Anyways, I seriously hope they base the movie on the Atlantis storyline. And it would be super cool to see Tilda Swinton play Natla.
If it's an action piece throw in Rhona Mitra, Milla Jovovich, or Angelina Jolie...
I think it is time for another young lady to step to the forefront, and do something more exciting than "girly" stuff all of the time.
