It wasn't quite a record day, but the latest Hogwarts adventure rang up plenty of dough at the box office on its first day. According to
Variety,
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince took in $58.4 million on its opening day yesterday.
The film opened in 4.275 theaters on Wednesday and the first-day tally includes a record-breaking $22.2 million from midnight screenings alone. The $58.4 million mark is the second-best Wednesday total, behind this summer's
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and its $62 million tally.
The Dark Knight's $67.2 million tally is still the highest single-day gross in film history.
As far as the rest of the week and weekend are concerned, some forecasts put the film's five-day tally between $125 million and $150 million, with some even suggesting a higher figure than that.
We'll be sure to update you with all the upcoming box office figures from the weekend as soon as we have the numbers in.
