A perpetual bridesmaid beat out a shiny compass and some fighting bears on the DVD charts this week.
27 Dresses topped both the DVD sales and rental charts in its debut week, for the week ending May 4.
The Katherine Heigl romantic comedy scored a resounding victory over fellow newcomer
Golden Compass which finished second in both charts. Even thought
Golden Compass was a family film, which usually equates to high sales, the film sold almost 30% fewer discs than
27 Dresses.
On the rental charts
27 Dresses led with an estimated $7.4 million while
Golden Compass finished with $6.5 million in rental revenue.
Golden Compass, however, did manage a victory on the high-def side, topping the Blu-Ray sales charts, while
27 Dresses finished in second place.
