There hasn't been anything quite like the hype ramping up towards James Cameron's first film in nearly twelve years. 20th Century Fox has even declared August 21st
Avatar Day. What is that, exactly? The day audiences worldwide get their first taste of the new sci-fi mo-cap fantasy film, of course. The presentation will consist of the never-before-seen trailer and footage from the film that was previously screened for select crowds at Comic-Con 2009. Now, according to
Apple, the online debut of the trailer has been moved ahead one day, to August 20th.
The
Avatar count down clock has even been updated to reflect the change. We now only have 4 days and counting until we're able to reveal in the magic that is James Cameron's latest opus. Starring Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Zoe Saldana, and Giovanni Ribisi, the film follows the amazing adventures of ex-Marine Jake Sully as he becomes lost on an unexplored world full of amazing inhabitants. Word coming out of Comic-Con is that this immersive 3D film feels and looks like nothing ever seen before it.
The
Avatar trailer hits this Thursday, August 20th. More footage from the film can be seen in IMAX on
Avatar day, August 21st. And the full-length feature film will hit theaters on December 18th, 2009.

Anyways, as others said, the hype is killing this movie. But I expect Fox to pull a fast one, and for the last two months before the movie comes, to CONSTANTLY bombard the entertainment world. T.V spots on every other channel, every entertainment magazine and show with "exclusive" coverage. But yeah, right now tha fans are the only ones who know about this, and they are getting ticked of Cameron being an egotistical bitch. Don't get me wrong, he is a great director and I love his movies but he is a bit out of touch with manners, and self centered. That said this movie will bomb big, or succeed big.
pd-you must see colombian women
I get the 2 old wash-ups mixed up lol, seriously Spielberg, Cameron & Scott all 3 of them need to retire.
LOL i actually liked the beginning of that first paragraph, Delgren, touche.
True Lies & Aliens are brilliant and Aliens is probably one of the finest sequels ever made next to T2.
But as you state to each their own.
T2 to me is the definitive action movie of all time, and well no matter what Cameron brings out he won't top that.
Also apologise to Gato, if i offended you, i respect the way you replied in a formal manner to my uncawful comment :)
But Spain & Brazil do have the hottest girls, thats one thing you gotta love about the countries
Insults aside, I think Cameron has a great catalogue of work, everything he's done has been on spot. To say that T2 is his best movie and arguing that point makes you a dumb ass mother fucker, is a dumbass mother fucking statement to begin with. All taste is subjective, one mans trash is another mans treasure, I might love Ride the Lightning, but you might like Master of Puppets. I personally love Aliens and True Lies, those are my favorites, I don't think they are the best because all his catalogue is good, but they are the ones I like the most.
...p.s: to J.A.Ottley,Bladerunner is directed by Ridley Scott...not Cameron.
I concur with Soylent.
We haven't seen nothing on this film yet, so Cameron better have something to fucking amaze the world.
He hasn't realised yet that hype kills films, well except TDK lol, because the marketing scheme and hype lasted and succeeded the year it maintained through.
And Cloverfield was another with its brilliant mysterious viral marketing.
But it aint about visuals no more, its becoming more and more about story and substance.
Cameron thinks his some god, because of Titanic, when hsi best work was and always will be undoubtdely Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Sorry i don't care if anyone here thinks Avatar will be better than T2, if you disagree take an IQ test. Because you gotta be one dumb ass muthafucker to disagree.
T2 = James Cameron's best work...
Then its probably a touch one between Aliens & Blade Runner
How the fuck can they make a statement like that?! What have we seen? Zoe Saldana's blue face, Sam Worthington's face, and Jim Cameron's disgusting mug holding a fucking camera.
If this movie isn't the greatest science fiction film ever made, fuck it.
I agree, J.A. The hype is way out of hand. Would you wait to release a trailer for a 300 million movie just 4 months before release? I wouldn't. Even Pixar's smart enough to advertise a year in advance :P
The hype is killing this movie
Otherwise i smell another Titanic, this time sinking with James Cameron on it.
Also this has Fox attached who haven't had a good run of films this year, or the past couple of years.
Can they redeem themself with Avatar?
What would be classic if the same thing that happened to Wolverine happened to this.
Now that would be the best comedy of the year and a great way to end it lol.
and for me the web page it not a website yet all you can do is sign up for updates like i sayed before i hope it lives up to all this hype...
