Jon Favreau May Not Be the Director for Iron Man 2

Source:  IESB.net
It seems like Marvel Studios is currently considering moving forward with Iron Man 2 without the involvement of director Jon Favreau. Despite the great success of Iron Man, much of which is credited to Favreau's involvement, according to a report from IESB.net, Marvel may be looking to go forward without him due to money disputes.

According to reports, Favreau directed the first Iron Man for a very modest fee, and was looking for a slight bump in his fee for the sequel film. However, despite the financial success of Iron Man, Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel is apparently unwilling to pay a higher fee to Favreau. Reportedly, the studio believes the film will be a success whether or not Favreau is involved.

Official statements from Marvel still say that negotiations between the studio and Favreau are still ongoing. Despite this, Favreau claimed on his MySpace forum that "It's been five weeks since the one and only phone call my reps have gotten from Marvel."

Stay tuned for more news about the future of Iron Man 2 as it becomes available. In the meantime, let's just hope that Marvel and Favreau are able to come to an agreement for Iron Man 2.

Hey billy, downey didn't play the hulk, he played iron man. Ed norton played the hulk

Between this & the Hulk situation with Edward Norton, the indication is clear: Marvel Studios bit off more than it could chew. Taking out a Merril Lynch loan in the billions & financing two back-to-back blockbusters can make even Donald Trump paranoid.

And as much as I enjoyed watching Iron Man & The Incredible Hulk back-to-back... from a financial standpoint, Marvel made a stupid move, and they're now plain paranoid & desperate. They should have waited untill the Iron Man's opening weekend before financing The Hulk.. at least they'd now have more liquid assets.

WHAT!? how in the heck are you gone make a hulk movie without robert downey junior? he did a way better job that that bana guy, ill admit i thought the movie was gone suck, but it was really good. although im gone agree with tripsx, iron man what the crapyst movie to come out all month, i watched it the day it came out, and then again last week, but i hated it a lot each time more and more. GET A LIFE THOUGH! quite talking about the director, after all, he is best friends with my uncle, and i see him at bbqs all the time, so if you want to talk about him, you gotta go threw me, so what if he made a flop, no one is perfect, and you are no director, so shut up, but yeah, the movie did suck, hopefully the sequil will be better.

What!!! XxMr.TripsxX, are you freakin kidding me?!Iron Man is probably going to be considered one of the best superhero films that has ever come onto the big screen and your telling me you thought it was terrible?! So let me guess your opinion of a good superhero film would be Ang Lee's Hulk (2003), which was a complete embarassment to the franchise, the actors, the studios and most of all the director (which if you're wondering The Incedible Hulk pretty much just saved that franchise from being a complete disaster). Look man Favreau did a great job and he will continue down that path so get your eyes checked or something because there is no way you and I saw the same movie.

Money is always the issue on everything. Money builds it and Money brings it down. The Movie was a success = people liked what they say.

Marvel plans on giving favreau a bigger pay check so he can direct the sequel and I like his work, both Zathura and Iron Man were good and great films

favreau has to direct, it wont be the same without him. the money the 2nd one will make compared to the 1st will be crazy so why wont they bump his fee up he deserves it.

I realize now Robert Downey Jr made Iron Man, he's the reason why it was so great, if they do replace the director, don't get Brett Ratner

Bad move. This will be one huge mistake if Favreau is not the director. He deserves a little bump in pay, the movie was awesome.

who could blame the guy for wanting more money, anyone with 2 eyes can see how well the movie did.. and once it hits dvd it will make another pile of money.. they should quit posturing and pay him his money, if the second is done poorly with another director, theres no telling how much money they would lose in people not seeing the third.. i hate hollywood.

i see what your saying. either way the studio needs writers and screenplay and a bunch of other things before they can surely say that they will start filming a sequel or that a sequel is even in the works.

What I meant was what if the incredible hulk and The dark knight does big money, would the studios change directors in order to get a sequel to the film out sooner
  (Delete)
June 10th, 2008 5:46pm
Fuck. They believe it will be a success whether or not he is involved. SHows you exactly what they mean by $ucce$$. Does anyone make movies to make them well anymore?

June 10th, 2008 5:35pm
artkid04, for the third x-men, they already changed the director and as for the dark knight, its the same guy, anyways there are too many rumors flying around to state that Jon is really not going to participate in Iron Man 2. we will just have to wait and see. hopefully Marvel wont make a drastic and stupid decision. oh and they changed "the hulk" director cuz the first director was one of the main reasons why it bombed.

June 10th, 2008 5:13pm
yah it wouldn't, god i knew this would happen, same thing is going to happen to spiderman 4, xmen 4, hulk sequel, The Dark knight, studios always seem to do this, idiots

June 10th, 2008 5:10pm
Yea Iron Man 2 might still be a success even if Favreau isn't the director, but it wouldn't be the same.

June 10th, 2008 5:02pm
I think studios get this idea in their heads that just because the first movie was good that the sequel will be good indepedent of the director. This is wrong: see X-Men 3. While not a complete failure, it was definitely not in the same league as the other two. Directors make movies good, studios who don't spend the money on good directors make movies bad.

Oooooh man. Money disputes again. I would just go with the fame and a few extra bucks. Then again...Jon Favreau is a genius. I say pay up where the talent lies. Think about making films that will make you money and last the test of time, Marvel.

David Maisel you are a fuc%ing douch pay Jon Favreau the money he is asking for don't mess up a winning combination Stan Lee you should flex your muscle in the board room and fire this retard and hire someone that has a clue how to be president and run your company into the future and not into the ground... read on true believers .... David Maisel biggest douch ever
