Warner Bros. to Release A Scanner Darkly on HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc April 10
February 22nd, 2007
On April 10, Warner Home Video will simultaneously debut A Scanner Darkly and Dog Day Afternoon in HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc. The films feature all-star casts including Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Robert Downey Jr., Woody Harrelson and Academy Award® winner Al Pacino. All bonus materials on the Standard Definition version will be included on the high definition versions and will be available for $28.99 SRP.A Scanner Darkly:
"A visually riveting mind-bender" (USA Today) and "a visionary headtrip" (Rolling Stone), A Scanner Darkly will be all the more intense when viewed in high definition. Set in a not-too-distant future where America has lost its war on drugs, the film centers around a character named Fred, an undercover cop, who's one of many hooked on the popular drug, Substance D, which causes its users to develop split personalities. Fred is obsessed with taking down a notorious drug dealer named Bob, but due to his Substance D addiction, Fred doesn't know that, in fact, he is also Bob. Based on a classic novel by Philip K. Dick (Blade Runner), the film stars Keanu Reeves (Constantine); Academy Award®-nominee and Golden Globe-winner Winona Ryder (Girl, Interrupted); Academy Award and Emmy-nominee and Golden Globe-winner Robert Downey Jr. (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang); and Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominee and Emmy-winner Woody Harrelson (The People vs. Larry Flynt). Academy Award-nominee Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused) shot the film in live-action and then animated it using the same critically acclaimed process he used on his film Waking Life.
Dog Day Afternoon:
Based on a true incident, Al Pacino and director Sidney Lumet (collaborators on Serpico) reteam for this unique thriller, filled with sardonic comedy, that earned six Academy Award® nominations (including Best Picture) and won an Oscar® for Frank Pierson's streetwise screenplay. Al Pacino plays mastermind Sonny and John Cazale is his partner Sal -- two optimistic nobodies who set out to rob a bank, resulting in an unexpected media circus and complete disaster.
