Rob Zombie to Remake The Blob

Source:  Variety
Rob Zombie to Remake The BlobOn the eve of Halloween II hitting theaters, Rob Zombie has already set up his next horror remake: a reinvent of the 1958 horror classic The Blob, which launched the career of Steve McQueen.

According to Variety, Zombie will write, direct and produce the remake.

In the original The Blob, an object from space crashes into a field, containing a red blob-like substance that absorbs the humans it contacts and grows exponentially. While Zombie was a fan of the original, he's formulated a decidedly different take that he would not reveal.

"My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing -- that's the first thing I want to change," Zombie said. "That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now."

Saperstein, the former Dimension Films president who developed a relationship with Zombie while they worked on Halloween, said that funding is in place to make an R-rated film that will cost around $30 million.

"I'd been looking to break out of the horror genre, and this really is a science fiction movie about a thing from outer space," Zombie said. "I intend to make it scary, and the great thing is I have the freedom once again to take it in any crazy direction I want to."

Zombie has begun writing. He'll follow the release of Halloween II with a new album and tour this fall and get the script done at that time.

Production will begin next spring.

Not sure if anyone has heard but the rumored director for the next film in the Halloween franchise will be Steve Miner. He directed Friday the 13th part 2-3 and Halloween H2O so the next one should be in great hands.

Cool Ottley! Let's see what you can do with it. Break out the sheet metal and Bondo, 'cause this vehicle needs a lot of work.

Fairly true and that is actually a good thing about the ages, and yeah the last 4 installments to the Alien franchise sucked, that's including AVP 1 & Reqiuem as well as 3 & Ressurection.

And yeah that storyline you stated is correct, i'm remember it that way too.
I've been working on an AVP treatment to erase those horrendous 2 installments, i mean how the fuck did the first AVP get a green light.
But ATM just doing the nessceary research for the project including reading all the Alien & Predator franchise comics.
I got an idea for a storyline it just needs to be strectched and expanded out. I want there to actually be a story with my one, not just "Hey look its an Alien, OMG its a predator, i gots an ideazzzzzz, why don't you to fight each other yayyyyyy!"

But i agree with you on that movie, it would be a nice installment, if written well and not messed around with the timeline like Superman Returns, not that it wasn't a bad movie or anything, but its just a duly noted exampular of messing with timelines in franchises.

Yeah Ottley. It was quite a few of years back, but I was at my local comic shop and I read some of this. I only read the beginning, but when it starts out, it's a few years later. Newt is a teenager and Ripley and Hicks are together, and one day, Ripley goes missing. There was some evidence that Ripley got kidnapped or something, and Hicks gets a bunch of Marines together to go search for Ripley. Hicks tells Newt to stay on Earth, but she stows away on the ship.

If they made that movie today, it would be perfect, because everyone is about the right age. And we could erase the last two submissions from the face of the Earth for good.

I actually enjoyed the music showing up at the end. It kinda passed the torch in a way. I am not saying H2 is great by any means but it's not that bad either.

moviespace1, that sucks that Carpenter's music doesn't grace this turd of a movie until the end. It should have played during the opening credits. I'm so glad I haven't seen any of these current Halloween movies. I haven't seen H2O either. I was stupid and watched that reality like gimmicky one with, that washed up rapper with the dreds, where Jamie Lee Curtis gets killed off. That was a Halloween movie by name alone! Jamie Lee should be ashamed of herself for agreeing to kill off Laurie Strode!!

And while we're at it, Sigourney Weaver should be ashamed for agreeing to kill off Ripley.

Please Cameron...make a sequel from the comics, that showed a grown up Newt stow away on the ship that Hicks takes, to go find a missing Ripley!!!! Pleeeeeeeease, save this franchise from the Hell it has drifted into!! Damn you David Fincher!

You're right Delgren. Bringing up that Norwegian camp brought it all back. Yes, it's supposed to take place with the alien being taken out of the snow. Thanks for reminding me. Yeah, it was back and forth for a while. "Will it be a sequel or a prequel". But it is slated to be a prequel as it stands.

It was pitched once that we would pick up the story with Macready and Childs still in the snow and the camp still burning. It would have had to be different actors of course. I mean they both look a lot older now. Maybe that's why they went with a prequel. Will this ruin the mystic, like how we feel it will with Alien? Hmmm. I'm on the fence with that one.

The effects from this movie still stand up though. It's one of my favorites. Hopefully the prequel retains the same feel, so it doesn't "alien"ate the fans. And I hope they use Carpenter's music.

The Thing- They were thinking of doing a prequel, but decided on a remake instead. That's the last I heard anyway. The state of these projects change every time somebody sneezes.

But wouldn't you agree, that because we know, love and have seen the original, that we would accept it that way.
A modern day auidence, wouldn't accept that, unless this is to be a campy sci-fi horror. They would just laugh horrendously at the previews and boycot the film making it an instant failure in the box office.
Because only the people that have seen the original and the 1988 remake will see it to comparise it to its previous versions and sum it up in comparison to those version..

I'm just trying to fathom a way this can be remade for a the slated 'MTV Generation.'
Only plausible way i see possible is make a shape shifting blob that consumes and takes identites.
A great example would be like Prototype, like how Mercer consumes and can take their last consumed person identity and blend in.

I kind of like the Blob the way it is, it seems like more of a scarier force in that it only purpose is to consume and continue consuming without conciousness to the destruction it is causing. It's a jugernaut that can not be reasoned with. It only gets larger and larger to the point that you think if it isn't stopped it will cover the globe.

Your right J.A. the upcoming Thing project is a prequel, it's supposed to be based on the events that take place at Norwegian camp when they dig the alien out of the snow.

Is it a remake i always thought it was a prequel to The Thing?

Van, i'm pretty sure its a prequel, not a remake.

Thank you at least someone grasps my point and perspective...

Here is some new movies news while were at it

Matthew Vaughn Wants To Direct THE AVENGERS?

Director Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Stardust) is no stranger to comic-book movies. He is currently adapting "Kick-Ass" and is attached to the adaptation of "American Jesus."

Regarding the world of superheroes, Vaughn was supposed to direct the upcoming "Thor" movie before leaving the project and getting replaced by Kenneth Branagh.

He was also one of the first people to consider developing an "Iron Man" movie. "I was desperate to do 'Iron Man' about 8 years ago, and everyone was like, 'Iron Man, no one will go watch that,'" he told MTV News. "Cut to now, and it's a huge hit."

And more recently, Vaughn and Mark Millar have been pitching ideas to Warner Bros for a Superman reboot with Vaughn attached to direct. Unfortunately, all the meetings with the studio went nowhere.

"Kick-Ass" is a hot property right now that will turn Vaughn into a more recognizable name. So if everything goes well, what would be the one project that he would be interested in taking on? "[I'd] love to do 'The Avengers,'" Vaughn revealed.

There is currently no director attached to "The Avengers," but "Iron Man" helmer Jon Favreau has been rumored to take on the challenge of bringing the Marvel superheroes together. Unfortunately, his busy schedule has created some doubt whether he'll be able to find the time for another massive project.

There's an idea; kick Zombie off of this project and get Sam. Bruce Campbell can play the McQueen role! Awesome!

Bruce Campbell line from The Blob: "Sorry, but I'm a pudding man myself". (pulls boomstick trigger, shooting embedded liquid nitrogen container) Kahboooooom!!!!!! Freezing Blob. BC: "Now let's go cut up ourselves a Blob".

comic book guy, I'm just repeating what I believe Ottley was saying. It's not my idea.

But you're right. I thought of the thing when I was respnding to that, but it "slipped my mind". That was a line from great character from Kids in the Hall.

i guess i'm describing something similiar to that of the The Thing.

Its still a blob, but it can shape shift.

Think the Blob/aymbiote meets the Liquid guy from T2.

Doing it this way allows more room for development it also allows whoever will screenwrite it to use the theme of trust and distrust, loyalty etc and the theme of fear among friends like The Thing done. Also the fear of that it being able to shape shift is you never know where it is.
I.E they people think the blob like thing is outside when really its in the lil cafe with them, they just don't know it until it cuts itseld and acid blood sprays everywhere.

Because i mean Zombie is right, you make a film these days about a blob that is a red acidic substance of jello, that slowly moves and wobbles around and its best move is it can reach out and grab you and dissolve you, is just laughable and the deaths can be repetitive. But the trailer will just make people laugh and lets face it Rob Zombie ain't no Sam Raimi, so i doubt he can pull off a camp horror.
