Don Cheadle has been cast to replace Terrence Howard in Marvel Studios' sequel
Iron Man 2.
According to
The Hollywood Reporter, Howard played Jim Rhodes, Tony Stark/Iron Man's best friend and future armor-clad hero War Machine. One scene featured Howard looking at a silver suit of armor and saying "Next time," a line that caused great delight for fans.
But there will be no next time for Howard.
Marvel had no comment, but sources close to the deal said negotiations with Howard fell through over financial differences, among other reasons. Marvel, which had wanted to work with Cheadle, then decided to take the role in another direction and approached the actor.
Rhodes is expected to play a larger part in the sequel, which is rumored to go beyond high-tech villains. Justin Theroux is writing the screenplay.
Jon Favreau is returning as director, and Robert Downey Jr. is expected back as billionaire industrialist Stark/Iron Man. Gwyneth Paltrow also is expected to be back as Stark's assistant, Pepper Potts.
No production date has been set.

But to turn down returning to a smash hit that's got potential to become a blockbuster franchise just cuz he didn't like the deal being cut to him is rather stupid on his part. I mean the royalties he'll be getting with all the DVD purchases and merchandising will set him good with finances, not that he's poor. Not to mention that there's more to a career than money. Being associated with such a franchise would give him a better rep. And he turns it down???
Oh well, sucks for him. I liked him in the role though. At least they cast someone great to fill his shoes. Don Cheadle rocks!!!! Though for some reason I can better picture Terrance Howard as the War Machine instead of Don Cheadle. Oh well, we'll see how it turns out.
That and wanting to shake things up, but alas, no one to rebuttal
i honestly think they should have stuck with Howard also. but if the guy's trying to cash in on his recent success then fuck him. he should have at least waited till the secong movie was done and he would have been a bigger loss. maybe then he would have had enough to bargain with.
but like i said before, Cheadle is a good choice.
