Len Wiseman to Direct Gears of War

Source:  Variety
Movie PictureLen Wiseman has signed on to direct New Line's Gears of War, based on Microsoft and Epic Games' hit videogame.

According to Variety, Chris Morgan is writing a new draft of the action picture that Stuart Beattie originally tackled.

Fanboys have been speculating for nearly a year that Wiseman may direct the project. The game was even featured in his most recent film, Live Free or Die Hard.

Gears of War revolves around a world reeling from an invasion by aliens known as the Locust, and a small team of elite soldiers who fight to retake the planet Sera and save its human inhabitants.

New Line had initially aimed for a summer 2009 release for the picture, but further development on the project now will likely delay that plan. No production date has been set.

then your clearly retarded!!!..... and Kwisatz, DOOM was fucking cool!! just like all movies it could have been better, but it still hit the spot and made you want more! they wanted to make a seqeul which would have been bigger and better, but they can't do that if people don't turn out to see the fucking movie!

i blame all the fucking nerds that will say this and that online yet won't leave their fucking room to see the movie in the cinema, they'd rather stream a shit copy of the net!

Live Free or Die Hard was really good, so I think this movie's in capable hands. Hopefully they get a real badass to play Marcus Fenix. Oh, and for the people who are saying "why isn't Michael Bay directing this?" it's because he's a hack. I fell asleep during Transformers.

As long as its not another DOOM, this could be badass!

Bring on Halo and Gears of War!

We can wait til then. We've waited this long for a halo movie, we can wait longer. It would be worth it to have bay and jackson team up. Jackson was already supposed to produce anyways. BUT if u can't wait, there's always the suggestion of just having peter direct. It's not like he's directing the hobbit.

I agree with you Travis. I mean PJ and Michael Bay.!!!
That would own. If that happened, it will be my most anticipated film EVER!!!
But hes too busy with T2 and T3. =(

Michael bay should direct halo with peter jackson producing after he's finished w/ transformers. How kickass would that be?

basically you want 90% of the cast from "the longest Yard"? not the best of starts , is it?

i definitely think they should get Lester to be cole train, cuz he is the perfect fit for him..i don't really like lobo...but that's ok..i think that Ryan Reynolds would be perfect for Baird.

Honestly Die Hard 4 was ok. Wiseman did it justice, but for a movie like this you need Michael Bay. The way he did Transformers was like whoa! Not to mention Bad Boys 1&2 he knows what it takes for a good gun scene and lets face it that's going to be 90% of the movie. Now as for the actors goes they could get Cole Train played by: Michael Clark Duncan,Terry Crews, Bob Sapp "Switowski from The Lonngest Yard" or they could the actual man who voiced Cole Train in the game Lester '"Rasta" Speight. That guy is big as hell! For Dominic they could get Lobo Sebastian who played "Torres" in The Longest Yard. For Baired they might have to go with an unknown actor that is wise cracking and has a slick mouth. And finally for the big man Marcus Fenix only one guy comes to mind like it or not David Batista better known as "Batista" from the WWE With a some acting classes he would be a great Fenix he doesn't even have to change his look. He is a splitting image of Fenix. With a good script this could be a soild movie and a Summer BlockBuster!

but i hope they don't do an origin story for the movie. takes up too much time. they could do a 15 minute intro explaining it all and BAMM! the real shit begins!

lol, ahh right. picked you up wrong. if it's better than Doom, i'll pee my pants! but think we all know it will be, it's clearly got alot more money behind it with getting Wiseman to direct. the man has made some good flicks the last couple of years.

very good idea should be better than doom

June 18th, 2008 3:05pm
cnote, i loved Doom. yeah maybe could have been better effects with monsters and a bigger ending, but it gave us what we needed. the actotrs did a good job and the first person shoot'em upscene was brilliantly done! what they need to do is make a sequel and spend more money on it, maybe with a more established director, who can detail the monsters and bring better camera shots of the action. but it was made to be a dumb fun movie, and thats what we got!

bloody overrated, that's all. But maybe Len Wiseman can make something good out of it as he did with Die Hard 4.0

Certainly can't be worse than Doom. GOW has a better storyline than Doom anyway. So it should be easier to convert to a watchable film. I think this'll rock.

Yeah this movie is gonna be the bomb!
My only worry is that who the hell is gonna be able to play al those super steroid pumped soldiers?
I cant see any actor from Hollywood wanting to pump them selfes up.
Or they probably are gonna make them pumped through the magic of computers.

They wouldn't leave out the Lancer (Chainsaw/machine gun) because it's kinda iconic to the game. It's their main weapon. And how would you make sawwing a Locust drone in half pg-13?

June 17th, 2008 10:42pm
Hell, ALIENS (1986) was Rated-R, and yet that's tame compared to today's standards. I hope it will be made towards "Adults" (18 and over) and not be a mass market promo to tie in with the Burger King fries peel-off campaigns bull shit.

Monkey's comment: "and GoW... It's a shooter game for fags... WHY THE HELL DO YOU HAVE TO HIDE WHEN FIRING? WHY AM I THE ONLY BEING ASKING THESE QUESTIONS!?"

Wow. You are a fucking idiot. How do I explain this to the special ed kids? Umm, well in real life, soldiers take cover so they don't get shot, they just don't running around with alien pulse rifles Halo style, everyone would be dead. Halo lost it's steam, too much pressure on them to get it right. Besides, what's cooler, a Locust drone or a Brute? Yeah my point exactly, the other race (Locusts) are far more interesting than any of the Covenent, Flood, or Brute races. And Locusts have diversity in their army, with giant spider looking creatures, to big boomshot locusts, to Brumaks (the big big scary mother fuckers) to newer Locusts that will be in Gears of War 2 videogame. They can do so much. All the characters have hidden stories so they could go in any direction. The whole Hammer of Dawns destroying Sera idea would be a great story in itself then the actual emergence day of the Locusts coming from underground. This movie will have to have a big budget for the things that will need to be involved. City destruction, special creature effects, props, suits/outfits, etc. This movie will cost a lot lol.
