It seems that a remake of an 80s classic might have one more signed on to the cast. According to
The Hollywood Reporter, Jackie Chan is in negotiations for
The Karate Kid remake.
The legendary actor is in talks to portray the martial arts mentor, much like Mr. Miyagi, which Pat Morita made famous in the
original film and subsequent
sequel. Jaden Smith has already signed on to portray the lead, who is picked on by bullies until he's taken under the wing of his mentor.
Harald Zwart (
Agent Cody Banks) has also just signed on to direct the remake, which is being developed at Columbia Pictures, from a script by Chris Murphy. It is said that they aim to start production possibly this year in Beijing. Jaden Smith's father, Will Smith, is also producing the remake with his Overbrook Pictures partners James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz along with the original franchise producer, Jerry Weintraub.

But, I like Jackie Chan, so I'll live...
Unfortunately, nepotism has made stars of Jaden Smith, Kate Hudson and now Bruce Willis's daughter, Rummer, is trying to break in...
there's no replacing pat freakin' morita, i hope they give jackie a name other than "mr. miyagi".
on second thought, what do i care, i'll never watch this movie anyway.
anyway this is a terrible idea, no need to remake karate kid, maybe if it was just a sequal that would make sense.
PLEASE stop remaking classic films.
