Gremlins is a classic.

Gremlins is original. Unless some movie now copied it, I don't know of any movies like it besides maybe Critters. But they are from space as gremlins are like ancient creatures or something. I can't remember.

Was Gremlins original? I haven't seen that movie in a while.

I was using a random example of a movie lol. But Ghostbusters is still very original if you think about it. What other movie is like those? I don't know of any. But anyway, I liked the Harry Potter films. My sister is obsessed with the books and even though she likes the movies, she was mad at a few things they left out. Like I need to be mad at Hollywood for more shit I like that's inaccurate or changed lol? Take Doom for a perfect example.

Haha. Well Ghostbusters was pretty good... I think. Lolz. But yes, its better to read it, but ya don't have to.. Just alot better. Thats me, don't bash me. Hallelujah. :)

It's just the movie won't have as much of an impact on you if you haven't read the novel, and the movie won't be as complex as the novel, no matter how hard it tries. That's what I think Comrade is saying: the movie will be a representation of what Watchmen basically is, but it won't be a page by page adaptation because it would be impossible to put that on celluloid. You can't judge the book on the movie. I might sound like a broken record here, but I hate it when people start arguing their "point" that if you can watch other movies that you haven't read the book of(like Harry Potter), then why can't you see Watchmen? Well, you have to remember Watchmen is a GRAPHIC novel, meaning it can depict what other novels can't in images. It had a lot of symbolism in those images. It's not just groundbreaking in literature, it's an artistic masterpiece, too, and I think Snyder will get the LOOK of the novel more than anything. Take that into consideration when you see the movie since you're too lazy to read the novel lol But seriously, reading the novel will only heighten your movie experience, not destroy it for you.

And Ghostbusters? C'mon, man. Watchmen is the only graphic novel to be included in Time's 100 Best Novels...it's genius...you can't compare that to fucking Ghostbusters ha

I almost did Fallen, but I didn't want to know the ending and ruin the film for me. As much as I like to know what's gonna happen in a movie, I get kinda bummed when I know TOO MUCH lol

I kinda agree with Chad. However, I think he means maybe, that you should read the novel after hearing of it, before watching it. IDk.

Comrade, you are being negative to a whole mass of people. Why is it just Americans that get bashed? Why not other countries who offer drugs and guns to little kids with no responsiblity? I'm just saying, you're picking a no win fight here lol. And the other thing you said earlier about people who have not read this. I haven't read it, not going to, cause I'm lazy and I'd rather watch the movie cause it looks good. Is that wrong? I didn't read Jurassic Park and it was awesome. I like ya, but you're being kinda weird on this topic about Americans and people who haven't read the graphic novel. Not really fair. For example, I had all (literally all) the Ghostbuster toys when I was a kid, does that mean if you didn't have them, you can't like Ghostbusters? Simply because you have and I haven't doesn't make it right. If you are just talking about negative people who hate movies regardless of the genre or plot, then well yeah of course lol. One film that did kind of let me down without reading the book first was Da Vinci Code. It was a good movie, I was just like "soo...this is the big secret? Whoop-de-doo." Because true Christians wouldn't care if he had a son. He would still be "Jesus" in their eyes. I just thought that was a silly thing to be the big secret. Now if they would have said he did something fucked up during the missing years of his life then it would have been more impressive. But that's just me and my take on that film alone.

Vamp, are you looking for Watchmen? Vis, I can see a Visual Effects nod. The trailers alone could get nominated.

Look, Cell has shit taste, but we shouldn't yell at him for not getting Watchmen. It takes a thoughtful reader to see its nuance, which he is not. Cell is the kind of person who would compare Harry Potter to Dickens. Is he right? Of course not, but he can go off in his own little world, liking the pamplea of crap that American Pop Culture shoves down his willing and accepting throat.
MW, that was not an insult, merely a statement of fact.
I think a lot of people will judge the film unfairly based on the book, and vise versa.

*Adapting a graphic novel, not film

February 25th, 2009 1:55pm
Yeah, Snyder is a stretch, but I just said it because the award is "achievement in directing" and I'd say successfully(seemingly) adapting a film once deemed "unfilmable" is an achievement lol I do see visual effects nom., though. They nominated Iron Man, and I believe 300, Snyder's last film. That wouldn't be a stretch

February 25th, 2009 1:01pm
For all we know this film may be straight shit. I HIGHLY DOUBT IT. If it is we always have the novel in our hearts. I might agree with you Vis, but look how long it took a comic book movie to get nods for Oscars? I still anticipate this film deeply.
  (Delete)
February 25th, 2009 12:15pm
As for the Oscars, I see a nom. for visual effects, but probably nothing more. I wanna say Zack Snyder might get a nom. for directing, but it would be a stretch. Maybe the Academy are big Watchmen fans, though, so who knows lmao

Celluloid, you obviously missed the point of Watchmen, and why the fuck would anybody listen to you anyway? We all know you have shit taste. Watchmen is a groundbreaking piece of literature in the graphic novel business. It DID fly over your head because you're too stupid to get it

im not a fan but i still want to see this pretty bad

February 25th, 2009 10:34am
Celluloid, this novel obviously went over your head. Therefore you shouldn't be allowed to even see the movie. The plot is completely different compared to any other comic, especially DC Comics. What is so hard to understand about retired superheroes "investigating" the murder of another. It had black comedy, suspense, definitely action and a GREAT PLOT. Some people just don't appreciate good stories.

...The back story of "Watchman" is far more intersting that the Novel itself!!! Very Shakespearean ...with double crosses and lies etc...all going back to the numerous attempts to make a film version Watchmen since 1986!!!!!!

February 25th, 2009 10:30am
Oscar attention? I doubt it. The film looks great- especially to us who have read the novel. The Oscar stuff is unlikely because The Dark Knight had about 8 nominations and walked away with like two. Heath Ledger barely got the award seeing is how Benjamin Button was raking them in. Diaigma, maybe your hopes fro this film to are a little too high, seeing as the Oscars just passed. I don't know that's just my opinion. Well I'm definitely seeing this next Friday (if I can get it, because people are going to go see this and a lot of them probably don't know it's "comic book")

I hate to say this...BUT I just got done reading the graphic novel "Watchmen"....& well I grew up in the 80's...& I never, ever heard of the thing till now with the hype behind the film's release in March 2009....Well, after I read the novel...Sorry to say, But to the other people who haven't read it ...It was shit...Plain and simple...Ok story...Nothing to jump up and down about! I guess it went over my head..But just like the novel "The Road"....this was another let down...I could take it or leave it.

Guess what fans. Watchmen already has a tomato rating of 89% It's bound to get higher by next week. I know this is WAY early to bring this up, but I hope this gets some Oscar attention.

...I got mine for Thursday the fifth at 11:59 PM. Just sayin'...

Vamp, how hard can it be? They reprinted 500,000 copies, go to ANY bookstore and shell out the 21.50. It's worth it.

Shelley, you seem to recognize that I'm giving the majority of people exactly the right amount of credit though, credit enough to act like jackasses. In case the MW team is reading this, that was not intended to insult Shelley, so pull your finger off the delete button.
