As Marvel Studios begins to slowly leak information about
Thor, we now know at least one person who won't be in the film - Daniel Craig. Craig, while speaking to
IESB about the latest James Bond film,
Quantum of Solace, said that he had turned down the role of Marvel's Thunder God in the upcoming film.
When asked about being on the short list for the film, Craig confirmed that Marvel had approached him about the role, but he had turned on. He jokingly added it would have been too much of a power trip being both James Bond and Thor, running around with long hair and a hammer.
While Craig was probably joking about the power trip aspect of it, there probably would have been real scheduling conflicts with being both Bond and Thor. In addition to starring in his own film in 2010, whatever actor plays Thor will most likely be contractually obligated to appear in
The Avengers in 2011, not to mention possibly making cameo appearances in
The First Avenger: Captain America and
Iron Man 2. That would make it difficult to have Craig do another Bond film any sooner than 2012, which the producers of the Bond series might object to.
So, while Kenneth Branagh is most likely confirmed to direct
Thor, the search for the wielder of Mjolnir, Thor's mystic hammer, continues!

besides i always thought of thor as a sort of symbol of gay pride. with his long flowing locks and tight short-shorts and tight shirt, everytime i looked at him i thought he just screamed "fabulous" so if daniel craig played him i would have a hard time taking craig seriously adter that.
that's right , i said it.
thor is a peter puffer.
