
Columbia Pictures has announced today that Taiwanese actor Jay Chou has been cast as Kato in
The Green Hornet.
Chou steps in for Stephen Chow, who was originally cast as Kato and was also in the running to direct the film as well. Chou joins the cast that already includes Seth Rogen as the title character along with Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz.
The Green Hornet was written by Rogen and Evan Goldberg and will be directed by Michel Gondry. The film is already slated for a July 9, 2010 release date.

I'm still not too excited for this movie, though. I'm still getting over the fact it won't be a serious origin tale a'la Batman Begins. But, I suppose you can't expect serious takes on every resurrected character, especially when they fight crime with an Asian sidekick whose more popular than them. Besides, it's not like Rogen's brand of comedy is spoofish and mindless, so it'll be interesting to see what him and his team cook up.
In short, this is the kind of movie that I am "on the fence about."
