Will Snake Plissken Wear Josh Brolin's Skin in Escape from New York?

Source:  Spielberg News, Bloody Disgusting
Movie PictureAnother interesting rumor is making the rounds today. According to Spielberg News, which was translated by Bloody Disgusting, Josh Brolin is currently in talks to star as Snake Plissken in the upcoming remake of Escape From New York. As you all know, he would be stepping in for Kurt Russell, who has played the role in two previous John Carpenter directed outings.

Spielberg News states, "A source close to the production (if so) has assured us that it is now Josh Brolin to be in the running to take over the role of Snake Plissken in the remake currently in draft New York 1997." (Blame the faulty English on the fact that this is coming from a French source.)

As noted by Bloody Disgusting, the film was originally supposed to be directed by Lin Wiseman but he walked away from the project last October. The film does not currently have a set start date.

If a good idea is messed up, then yeh, a remake is worthwhile. But why remake classics? It's not gonna better the original, and most of the remakes are of films barely 20 years old. So ok, they were hardly made yesterday but they're not exactly prehistoric either. And if the remake's a fuck-up, it'll probably taint the original even further rather than enhance it. It's just blatant greed.

I don't know what the problem with remakes is. I actually look forward to most of them. Granted, there are some that should never be remade.

"Josh Brolin as Snake Plissken ...ROFL!!!! Josh Brolin is a good actor, but he is no Snake Plissken!"

are you implying that he would need to hone his skills to compare to captain ron? as beloved as kurt russel may be, the guy isnt exactly academy award material, hes just a funny overly confident likeable guy with a huge head.

josh brolin is an actual bonafide "good" actor, where as russel is just an entertaining guy to watch, so suck it, douchebag.

Your right Rad, there's nothing we can do to stop remakes of classics. All we can do is vent our frustration about it on here. I won't be going to see it anyway, but I reckon it's gonna do well at the box-office.

to answer everybody....... NO!!! we don' need another re-make, let alone a re-make of such a classic movie!

BUT!! they are going to do it either way. so all you can hope is that the people behind it pick actors who you might think can do it justice. all this whining about re-makes gets you no-where, i don't bother with M/W that much anymore cause anytime i do it's full of people with pointless complaints abo0ut things that you nor i can change/fix!...... "movieweb fans powerfull in hollywood" ..... my ass we are!

Josh Brolin as Snake Plissken ...ROFL!!!! Josh Brolin is a good actor, but he is no Snake Plissken!

I'm soirry but do we "REALLY" need another 1/2 ass Re-Make of a great cult film "Escape From New York"...?? This is the dumbest idea right next to "Friday the 13"!

I'm sorry but Kurt Russell will be, and always will be Snake Plissken!

What happend to director John Carpenter..?? He is now selling out to Hollywood??

& if anyone forgot there was a sequel was filmed: "Escape From L.A."!

I think I should start a on-line petition to have films like "Escape From New York" from being Re-Made becuaset he Re-Make is always a joke and jsut plain bad!

Despite the fact I think Brolin would make a great Snake Plissken I can't stand to hear about any more remakes of classic films that still hold up to this day and do not need to me remade other than to cash in once again on two generations of movie goers. John Carpenter must be sick to his stomach... 1st they remake Assault On Precinct 13, then Halloween, I hear they are redoing The Thing too, still can't believe that sh*t.... c'mon' this is starting to get ridiculous.... has Carpenter lost the rights to all his films or is he cashing in on this disgusting display too? Enough with the remakes! There are tons of starving writers out there with great screenplays.... Hollywood should open it's doors a little bit more to the broad range of talent that's out there just waiting to be discovered. What happens when they exhaust all the 70's and 80's flics? Pretty soon they will be remaking movies that came out only 10 years ago.... I mean where do we draw the line?!

i like Brolin, but I dont thik this movie needs a remake. I'll see the new one, but I really rather enjoyed the old film, and dont see a remake being anything more than a total lack of original ideas from writers, and a safe investment with a return for a studio. Bring me something new!

I will say for once, this movie doesn't really need to be remade, technically, Escape From LA was kind of the remake of the original just a different city lol. I will probably still go see this, it's a shame that Kurt's so old now cause I loved his sense of humor in the previous films.

At least they are making one right choice if they do choose to remake Escape From New York even though this movie doesn't need to be remade!

McConaughey? Are you fuckin crazy? That guy cant act for shit. Brolin is a much better choice than that.

I think Josh Brolin is a good choice but I really don't want to see a remake of Escape the original is just to perfect but I could easily change my mind.

What the Fuck Matthew McConaughey that guy can't act for shit He cant even pull that off.

i think that Matthew McConaughey would make a good snake, he can play the long hair just like russell and is a solid actor, i dont think brolin could do it right, these are some big shoes to fill and they need an a list actor to do it
