The Dark Knight to Return to Theaters January 23. Will You Go Again?

Source:  Variety
The Dark KnightIn a story from Variety, Warner Bros. will roll out The Dark Knight again on Jan. 23.

It seems that this could push the film over $1 billion in worldwide box office.

Currently the film has amassed $530.3 million domestically and $465.9 million internationally.

This re-release will happen six weeks after The Dark Knight comes to DVD.

"We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the bigscreen as it was meant to be seen," stated Dan Fellman, president of Warner's domestic distribution.

One of the most celebrated and successful films of this or any year, The Dark Knight has been hailed by both critics and audiences since its original release last July. The film garnered widespread acclaim for its artistic and technical achievements, including the work of its outstanding cast and its director, Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Christopher Nolan (Memento).

Led by Christian Bale, reprising his role from Batman Begins, and Academy Award® nominee Heath Ledger (Brokeback Mountain), the ensemble cast also includes Academy Award® winner Michael Caine (The Cider House Rules), Gary Oldman (the "Harry Potter" films), Aaron Eckhart (Thank You for Smoking), Maggie Gyllenhaal (Stranger Than Fiction), and Academy Award® winner Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby).

In addition, critics and moviegoers alike applauded Nolan's revolutionary use of IMAX cameras to film some of the most challenging action sequences ever created-a first for a major feature film.

Nolan directed The Dark Knight from a screenplay written by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. Charles Roven, Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan produced the film, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull serving as executive producers.

Collaborating with Nolan behind the scenes were two-time Oscar®-nominated director of photography Wally Pfister (The Prestige, Batman Begins), Oscar®-nominated production designer Nathan Crowley (The Prestige), Oscar®-nominated editor Lee Smith (Master and Commander: The Far Side Of The World) and Oscar®-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (Topsy-Turvy). The music is by Oscar® winner and multiple Oscar® nominee Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Gladiator) and seven-time Oscar® nominee James Newton Howard (Michael Clayton, The Fugitive), who previously collaborated on the score for Batman Begins.

Originally released on July 18, 2008, The Dark Knight broke virtually every possible box office record to become the top-grossing film of 2008 and the second-highest grossing movie (domestically) of all time.

Now, the question is...will you go see it in theaters one last time even though you own the DVD/Blu-ray?

uggh dammit
it's not playing where I live
The Dark Knight re-release is not
currently playing at the MOST theatre in Syracuse. As each IMAX theatre is
individually owned and operated.
bummer

I'll go to see this one last time on the big screen come January just because I love this movie and it deserves to get to the $1 billion mark. I think it was way better than Titanic, and the reason Titanic made more was because the movie stayed in theaters for almost a whole year so if people saw it when it first came out and wanted to see it again months later they would just go again, so that's how it did it, although The Dark Knight deserves the #1 spot all the way.

I agree that this is a film that needs to be seen on the big screen. The entire movie experience with this film is worth it. I'm sure it will get a huge response again.

Same reason my last comment is posted twice. Silly Movieweb. So, whatever did I say to imply "career" in your hobby? I don't recall saying anything that would merit such a statement.

oh wow! look everybody now we alll know that gangster was a fraud! he can spell, douche.

Yes I did mean "more than," but it was 3:45 in the morning when I posted and for some reason Movieweb would not let me delete my post and replace it with the revisions. I mentioned it was my hobby, not my career. I teach high school English and I majored in Literature in college.

The last third of the boat movie is a masterpiece. Minute by minute break down of what happened before the boat sank. The fictional love story that was thrown in there for who knows why, I think, is the reason behind its decline in mass appeal over time. I mean, it's still number one because I can't think of anyone who didn't see it in the theater. Even granny went and she hates movies!

du gangsta- I stopped and thought about it. Still don't think Titanic is better. Saying James Cameron is "more well known" for a reason is common sense, thank u Captain Obvious, the difference is for people like myself when I hear the name James Cameron I think of Terminator. When u hear James Cameron u automatically get wet and think of Titanic. Which is fine, if thats what your into. Saying he made an exact replica is pointless, he's a movie director remaking a movie that's what he's supposed to do. lol. I think it's time you take that Leo DiCaprio poster off your wall, grow some balls, and stop beating it to that replica you seem to be so obsessed with.

I know this is a pretty late comment. But to The Wonder Boy Years-

I said this is not as good as Titanic for a reason. There's no comparison to a Batman movie, and a movie that is a classic. Titanic... James Cameron is more well known than Chris Nolan for a reason. Cameron took the time to make an EXACT replica of the real Titanic, and the movie is just so beautifully crafted, and you can tell it really took it's time to make. Then you got some Batman movie, who I did not say was a bad film, nor did I say it doesn't deserve a box office smash, but there's just no comparison when you stop and think about it.

and btw, I know how everyone feels on the subject, and I'm sure I just became the #1 most hated moviewebber, so don't even respond or bash me, because I know your story.

Every man needs a hobby... That's one I've never heard of until now. More power to ya. Mine is writing. So, I assume you meant to say "Perhaps I know (more) than you do as I study this stuff as a hobby." ? Couldn't help but point that out. Force of habit. You did notice that I plan to get a Blu-ray eventually, right? Perhaps if I played my DVDs on an HDTV, I would notice the difference, but having it projected on my entire living room wall, larger than any HDTV I've yet to see, looks and sounds just as good as the theaters to me.

I'm still waiting for UHD before I make a full upgrade.
