It was a tight race at the box office this weekend, but
Fool's Gold came out swinging. The film, which saw Mathew McConaughey and Kate Hudson reteaming for the first time since 2003, went on to win first place with $22 million. Coming in at second place was this week's only other major new release
welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins. Chalk full of some of today's biggest comedians, the funny family film took in an estimated $17.1 million.
Still continuing to impress is the 3-D Imax film
Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour, which came in third with $10.5 million. The film was only supposed to have a limited seven-day run, but its growing numbers at the box office are keeping it around indefinitely.
Two smaller films did all right on the indie circuit this weekend.
Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show took in $507,000 on 962 screens. The crime thriller
In Bruges fared a bit better, pulling in $471,000 on just 28 screens. Though, it was
The Hottie & the Nottie that crashed and burned with just $25,000 on 111 screens.
Next week will prove to be stiff competition as
The Spiderwick Chronicles,
Diary of the Dead,
Jumper, and
Step Up 2 the Streets all open for Valentine's Day business.
