And as for the blockbuster thing;
not all summer movies require the destruction on a city wide scale to sell...

remember when we had good summer movies to look forward to?

I have not seen a disaster movie I haven't liked. From Deep Impact and The Core to The Day After Tomorrow and Sunshine to just name a few. This looks to be another great disaster movie I will add to my fav's.

Finally. Emmerich has returned as the "master of disaster" :P

oh also, for the cinematic side of the movie. creativity and visuals are the only 2 things to count.
(I might not have said that in my first 3 comments because each time I click post comment i remember another thing i wanna talk about. LOL)
Is this gonna be better than TF2?? PROB (a.k.a. DEFF) NOT.
Transformers 2 is gonna be a movie that will have these 2 qualities along with MANY others. so lets face it. this is not better than TF2

To say the truth on all this. this had been a heck of a conversation. but the truth is, this is not eye popping visuals, he's just trying to make you see the end of the world. and litteraly, for anyone who still cannot imagine it. the end of the world is going to be THE - END - OF - THE - WORLD. ehh that;s the story GUYS.... HELLO. don't go too deep. you know why I think this is going to be a good movie:
1. visuals are great so should be a good watch for the theaters.
2. this is technically the first movie to actually show you the END OF THE WORLD. am i wrong or do all "END OF THE WORLD MOVIE" END with the world "NEVER .. ENDING". hahahahahahahahahahha. these are major events that would make you see how the FUCK could the world end. so fuck me if I say this, but this is more imaginitive than your minds guys.
+++++++++++++
its gonna be 9999999.99999 % CGI. HELLOOO the end of the world never actually happened. so, how can you catch the whole picture of the world ending with not alot of CGI. its the WHOLE WORLD ENDING. what you want them to burn a fuckin city to show you the world ending. FUCK NO. its gonna be CGI.

So I'll enjoy the creativity of this guy, and lets hope this is gonna be a movie where the world is actually gonna end.
I still don't get it. the world never ends in movies like these. isn't it FUNNY. LMFAO.

haha Wow. Do we really need a fucking history lesson or dictionary definitions? Just see the fucking movie for the visual effects, because that's all it's offering, people. If you expect any more out of it, you're going to be disappointed. Transformers 2 is based on a pre-existing toy property about giant fucking robots. It can afford to be effects driven, and we all know that's not JUST what if offers. The acting is great, too, and the dialogue is funny. Just from the trailer I can see that Shia's performance is going to be great and that the same kind of humor from the first film is returning. This is based on a Mayan prophecy that predicts the end of the world. Many believe it's true. SO, it's already got a shit load of controversy going with it, but NAH, let's give it to fucking Roland Emerich so he can make it into just another disaster movie. Good call. I mean, I want to see it, but to bring up TF2 when they are completely different is just stupid.

Finally, a movie showing the complete destruction of the Earth!
And you still think TF2, in scale, is greater than this?
Now every subsequent film about total crushing of Earth will be treated as a copy of this picture.
Congratulations, Emmerich! You'll be the first to reach that milestone.

Ok, has nobody picked up a history book before and read the "prophecies" of the Mayan civilization? Also, have none of you ever seen a Ronald Emmerich movie? What exactly were you expecting?
So many people in here are talking about how it's a stupid story yet some people, not necessarily myself, believe that December 21st, 2012 will be the end of the world....possibly even by events like what you see in that trailer.
So with that in mind, who better to make a film about the world coming to an end by destructive means than Ronald Emmerich? I'm mean he has destroyed the Earth like 200 times before so why not again? Now I'm the first to admit, Ronald Emmerich's films are not exactly the most impressive with their screenplays, nor are things like character development his particular forte either, but where he may fail in those area's, Ronald always succeeds in delivering impressive......actually, fucking incredible eye candy and good old destructive fun (Aside from 10,000 B.C. because that garbage is one of the top 5 worst movies I've ever seen.....but anyway). Now obviously explosions dont make a good movie, but when you are going to see a movie based around that sole concept you at least want someone who is good at it, right? My point is, why is everyone getting there panties in a wad about seeing massive CGI and destruction when it is a story about that very thing.....just go see this movie purely with the intention of having fun.....NOTHING else.

I personally am looking forward to getting into that theatre, turning my brain completely off, and just enjoying the visual extravaganza that this movie surely will be. Those special effects are pretty freakin awesome, even if there is no "complex story" to back it up. Ronald Emmerich is the king of guilty pleasure films....so why fight it?

Oh and one more thing, are some of you guys fuckin slow? How in the name of FUCK is "The Earth coming to and end with tidal waves, volcano's and other destructive events, therefore leading the government to build "Noah's Arch" to ensure that mankind will go on" an original idea? Thats like saying Aliens coming to Earth and attacking humans is a really original concept.

BTW for all those that need just a bit of help:

block·bust·er [ blók bùstər ] (plural block·bust·ers)
noun
Definition:1. popular success: something such as a book, play, or film that is either very large or achieves enormous commercial success ( informal )

so a blockbuster cannot actually suck (or be shit, which lets not get too literal on that one), it is a contradiction for a blockbuster to be successfull and suck and/or be shit at the same time, it cannot be done. HOWEVER... the other two definitions:

2. person who practices blockbusting: somebody who persuades people to sell their houses by instilling fear of declining property values ( informal )

3. arms huge destructive bomb: a large high-explosive bomb designed to demolish buildings over a large area ( dated )

technically those two could suck, they really could. so if those who think that blockbusters suck, please be more specific next time, again let us review:

blockbuster film = popular
blockbuster (guy who scares people into selling home = that sucks
blockbuster (a large bomb that blows up)= that can suck too.

LOL... Zz, i was completely unaware Keanu made a cameo, please disregard number 9 then. Thanks hyperion for somewhat defending my statement and i too respect yours that you think it will suck, and fallen i completely agree with you, i have to just ask this... all of those please raise your hand, that thought terminator salvation and wolverine, were going to be the best films of the summer... i rest my case. not all movies can be based on a trailer, i too agree that transformers 2 or anything else can be based on a trailer. 2012... the teaser was just that, but i wasnt thrilled, but this film looks promising... not all storylines are oscar worthy material, but then again please... a show of hands that thought the dark knight was brilliant and was snubbed for an oscar. my point is that this film is based on apocalypse... a prediction... an alternate universe... like the theories of 1999 or even Nostradamus predictions... it is an interesting concept, and a welcoming one after all the turds i have chewed up this summer so far... still trying to get the taste out of my mouth .

oh yeah.. you can put your hands down now too.

I'm with Chad. I only rant on movies I can do better than. And I can not do better than what I have seen from this movie yet. So I am not against it.

I liked ID4, The Patriot, and The Day After Tomorrow. I think this will be a good somewhat apocalyptic flick.

And the CGI!?1 Really? I mean, I can't wait for T2 but that has CGI by the shitload. This has far more but it is on a bigger scale. :) "Peace."

It's actually a reboot of The Day After Tomorrow and Independence Day. And a prequal to The Day The Earth Stood Still, Keanu Reeves makes a cameo as the head alien attacking the planet...

Glad we sorted that out, incmob.

June 18th, 2009 10:02pm
Though I think this movie is going suck, I can agree with incmob on one thing: atleast this movie is a completely original piece of work. I'll probably see it just because there will probably be some very amazing imagery; the only reason I will go see Transformers 2 as well.
