Electronic Arts and Starz Media Set for Dante's Inferno

Source:  Variety
Electronic Arts and Starz Media will make an animated feature adaptation of the videogame Dante's Inferno, which hits stores next year.

According to Variety, Film Roman, a subsid of Starz, will produce the film, as it did with Dead Space: Downfall.

Dante's Inferno will mirror the game's plot and follow Dante's journey through the nine circles of Hell -- limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery -- in search of his true love, Beatrice.

Both are based on part one of Dante's classic poem "The Divine Comedy," better known as "Dante's Inferno."

The game bows on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 next year. It's being developed at EA Redwood Shores.

"The animated feature will be a great companion piece to the game," said Jonathan Knight, executive producer and creative director for "Dante's Inferno." "The feature will explore aspects of the poem that the game does not, and will provide more insight into the characters and the unique story adaptation that the game has established."

It's meant to be a reference, but i do get your point as for that is the title for the first part of the poem.

It was originally a title for Devil May Cry 2 that was scrapped, which is obviously also inspired by The Divine Comedy henceforth the characters Dante & Virgil. I guess after they scrapped the title for DMC 2, they used inspiration from Dante Alighieri's poem.

But they've just intergrated a storyline in the poem, so it's using a lot of inspiration from the poem and yes obviously stealing the title.

But then again these days don't all Hollywood care about is cashing into other ideas, when was the last piece of orginality in Hollywood's industry?

Why call it "Dante's Inferno" if it's a completely different story? It sounds to me like they're just cashing in on one of the greatest poems in history by attaching its name to a ridiculous idea.

Why animated, because it wouldn't be successful as a movie adaptation and plus it's cheaper to make an animated feature rather than a live-action feature because creating Dante's Inferno would be very SFX-Heavy, just look at the concept art from the game.

So basically they are kind of following in the same steps as Dead Space.
I'm with Diaigma...This needed to be an animated feature for it to work so my interest level just boosted a few notches.

and Josh dude, come on be a bit more creative.
Dante's Inferno is a game inspired by the Divine Comedy not based, totally 2 different things.
Things don't need the plot laid out for them to be interesting.

What can the player possibly DO in this game? Dante never fought any demons in hell, he just walked through it and talked to people. Frankly the poem wouldn't make a good movie so a movie based on a game adaptation sounds even worse.
Some things just shouldn't be adapted.
