Ridley Scott Possibly Eyeing Alien Prequel?

Source:  IESB
It seems that a new sci-fi prequel may indeed be gearing up for production. IESB was on the red-carpet of the Tempe, AZ premiere of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and the site caught up to Fox co-chairman Tom Rothman, who had some interesting things to say about a prequel film to Alien.

"There's been some talk. Ridley Scott, Ridley is right now working on Robin Hood, but I think he's toying with the idea and that would be great for us. I mean, it's always been a matter of, really, if you can get the originator to do it that would be the greatest thing, so I've got my fingers crossed, all of them."

he aint the originator. Dan O'Bannon & Ronald Shusett are.

and "X4: Origins: Wolverine" was premiered in Tempe, AZ??? Bizarre choice. I've been there countless times visiting relatives over the past 20yrs, and there's not much amazing about it.

What ever we say, Scott will just do a prequel if we like it or not.
Personally, I've enjoyed every single film even the AVP films, I just think that there needs to be a better script and a better writer.
The last Bond film was rushed, most action or horror films are rushed and that needs to stop. It's high time that Hollywood needs to get better at choosing directors, like actors.

each installment of the franchise offered something creative and different. i liked ALL of them.

ALIEN - the discovery
ALIENS - the war
ALIEN 3 - the survival, no weapons, just wits.
ALIEN RESURRECTION - the hybrid. Hybrid of the creature, the android and the story. weakest of all but still entertaining.

NO PREQUEL, just do a really good SEQUEL!

ALIEN was the first of the series and the discovery of the creatures.
What could a PREQUEL possibly have...the college life of the astronauts? LEAVE IT ALONE!

ALIENS was one of the coolest franchises ever...and now thanks to ALIEN vs PREDATORS its' been shot to shit! Just leave it alone!

Ridley Scott needs to get bitch slapped for giving us that shitty Body of Lies. The director of the great Hannibal gives us Body of Lies. Really?

its ridley scotts film he should bitch slap every1 involved in AVP-R for tryin 2 kill half of what he made!!! i would prefere 2 see a proper AVP movie than a new alien one, and with scott and guillermo del toro behind it, because with scotts origonality and del toros creativness that would b amazing. also with atleast a character that you don't wanna see die cos i was happy 2 see all those bad actors in AVP-R die slowly!!! ha
what do you all think? let me know

Examples:

"Who do I have to f--- to get off this ship?"

"Must be a chick thing."

"Ripley? I thought you were dead."
"Yeah, I get that a lot."

Just for the record...I did not think ALIEN 3 was that bad. I remember seeing it in the theater and, although not the rollercoaster ALIENS was, I found it different and creative. Some parts didn't flow well, though. Fincher was shooting with an unfinished script and it was his first job...I found the extended cut to be very interesting and revealing as it was a seriously compromised film. STILL, I'd prefer the Dark Horse story over it anyday. And don't get me started on that weird crap they call a fourth film. RESURRECTION was bizarre, disturbing, and annoying all wrapped up in one. Don't take a franchise like ALIEN and reduce it to computer effects, one-liners, and tongue-in-cheek humor.

It would be awesome for Scott to do another science fiction movie. It doesn't have to be Alien, but that works too.

I completely agree with both Gray & Film Critic.
You know there was once an article that Cameron & Scott were teaming up for Aliens 5.

I concur with Happyjack, i don't nesscearily believe that the Alien franchise needs a prequel, but heck we can't stop it if it goes through just pray it goes into pre-production hell like Aliens 5 did.

Nathan, you pull a good point. But either Scott or Cameron would fit this project. Cameron would probably try and make it big budget, like he has been doing with his 2 previous movies.

If it goes through, i see Scott either directing or some how on production side, probably a producer.
I doubt Cameron would since he has stated that Avatar could be the first of a trilogy, if its a success and then after Avatar he has stated he may be doing a film adaptation to Battle Angel Alita, which i would love to see Cameron's envisionment of it.

Best direction i would wants to see for this, if it gets off, a team-up between both directors. Possibly something like Cameron writing the script and Scott directing, and both producing so they can place their names above the title.

Ridley Scott & James Cameron Present.

Just thinking top of the head though

why are people obsessed with prequels. prequels can be just as bad as sequels.

SOME FILMS DONT NEED PREQUELS, ITS AS SIMPLE AS THAT. ALIEN WAS A FINE FILM, AS WAS ALIENS. SINCE THEN THE ADD ONS HAVE BEEN POOR ALIENS IS A FILM ON A LONG LIST THAT HAS BEEN SPOILT BY THE DESIRE FOR MORE.

the best thing for this movie franchise, ridley scott is wonderful for it, but even better is makeing sure signourey weaver keeps her hoof out of it all together, i think that is what ruined the franchise in the first place after aliens......

I think the should try to get Cameron. It would be a lot more action, and he would also bring a good plot.

The only way to interest me is to set the movie only in alien worlds, all envisioned by Giger.
Another option is to make AVP3 based off on the first videogame, so with THE FUCKING COLONIAL MARINES THAT WE'RE NOT SEEING FROM THE FUCKING 80'S!!!

Ridley Scott or James Cameron is cool with me. Hell I'd even take Fincher or that french guy who did resurrection. A prequel has to be huge, completely focused on the art and ideology of the aliens, and not just focus on the poor helpless humans.

This intrigues me and gives me hope for the future of this franchise. The AVP movies sucked beyond belief. Maybe if Ridley Scott attempted doing an AVP movie, it would do justice to both of the franchises. Or it could just be an Aliens film. Show em how its down Ridley.

Ridley Scott is one of the best directors working today. His sci-fi projects (Alien & Bladerunner) are classics...I really hope that he will come back to this genre and deliver the suspense and fantastical imagery that he is renowned for.

Yeah, I had read Cameron had worked on a script, but ceased when he heard AVP was going to be made. Too bad. You'd think that with Hollywood running out of ideas (sequels/remakes) that FOX would have capitalized on Cameron's work (guaranteed success) - but instead opted for cheap pops with Frankenstein vs. Wolfman....er, I mean, Aliens vs. Predator.

I agree with you Gray. It is the most phenomenal story out of the Alien Comics.
You do know they actually intended to follow that story line after Resurrection?
But apparently because Resurrection was so badly received, the film was halted and has been in production hell ever since.

You probably read articles about Alien 5 was meant to be set on Earth, in which they were intended to actually follow the story. Cameron even wrote the script before he wrote the first draft to his own version of spiderman

Has anyone ever read the Dark Horse comic sequel to Cameron's ALIENS? It was published before ALIEN 3 was made. Amazing story. There were a trilogy of tales to tell the story. Newt is a young woman with *ahem* issues. Hicks is a full-blown alcoholic who still can't come to grips with what happened. Ripley doesn't show until 1/3 of the way through the story. The Company finally brings aliens to Earth and all hell breaks loose. It was a spellbinding story that had so much potential. After the other movie sequels were released, the reprints of these had name-changes done to it's characters so as to fit the "cinema" universe. I think Ripley should still be in hypersleep experiencing the nightmares the movie sequels and AVP movies really were and pick up right after ALIENS. I know this won't happen, but damn, a guy can dream...

Predator 1, 2 and Alien, and Aliens will be classics always, with Pred 3 being good. The rest we're crappy action flicks. With Ridley directing this, it should bring the Alien status back to it's standards, and I am all for it, however, Fox will most likely try and fuck something up.
