Samuel L. Jackson Won't Be Nick Fury in Iron Man 2?

Source:  The LA Times
Samuel L. Jackson will not reprise his role as Nick Fury despite his cameo in Iron Man, according to The Los Angeles Times, which reported the upcoming slate of Marvel Studios projects that includes Iron Man 2, The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers.

"There was a huge kind of negotiation that broke down. I don't know. Maybe I won't be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won't be in it. There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world so [they're saying to me], 'We're not making that deal.'"

I called Marvel Comics and they gave me a statement that suggested that they still want to see Jackson wearing the eyepatch. "Marvel does not comment on active negotiations," was the boilerplate repsonse, but there was that emphasis on the word "active" in the voice of the spokesman who phoned me back.

Jackson might just have been taking a public position that could lead to a bigger payday (it certainly wouldn't be the first time a Hollywood star used an interview as a negotiating tactic) but he seemed especially sour on the whole the topic of working with Marvel ...

Yeah, but Hugh Jackman along with Halle Barry, were complaining about the movie, doing another one, and wanted more money, thus "supposedly" ending the X-men (with all characters) franchise, but know that Jackman is the main star, has a movie about his character only, and I'm sure making much more money, now as you say it seems like he has changed his toon.

I agree he should and is Nick Fury, just as the original cast of Iron Man was fine, but there's nothing we can do about it now,

there's no more loyalty in Hollwoodland, either the directors, tire of their projects or lose their touch in a franchise (Batman franchise, Indiana Jones, Star Wars), actors want more money for sequels, what have you, get casted in another movies, or just lose thier intrest, or writers get lazy, or can't think of anything better then before (Sopranos, New Indiana Jones, bad remkaes), or even the studios make be important chnages.

Him Being In The Movie Will Make It So Much Better,I Hate When Movies Have Sequels And Change THe Actors Up It Kills The Movie...Except For The New Hulk That Was A Good Move Cause The Last One Wasn't So Great..

It was, but not as noticably, at least to me, and you can just call me BlizZzard, and I'm not sure what you mean by the second part of your sentence are you talking about The Octopus or Fick Fury?

thanks nwo. but even you gotta admit spirit was a bit cheezy. especialy in comparison to a character based on his own persona

sigh'... this movie just seems to be getting worse and worse. First we lose the excellent Terrance Howard for that Black ass Ceadle. now Sam Jackson? its amazing that he would say yes to the God awful role in the flop Spirit. yet say NO to a character that was created in his image from the begining. Evey Ultimate fan knows that Ultimate Nick Fury was based on Sam. 4 shame Sam. 4 shame....

I read Spiderman comics when I was a kid, I only remember the name, but not anything about him or what he looked like. I find that strange. Maybe he wasn't in the ones I read lol. I did have this huge Spiderman book (it was like a bunch of issues in one big book). I saw Dr. Doom, The Lizard, Doc Ock, Rhino, Venom, Carnage, Mysterio, etc. Never Nick Fury. (I know he's a good guy)

Chad, most normal people might not know who Fury is because they don't all read Marvel Comics. However anyone who reads comics, anyone who watched the Spiderman cartoon as a kid, or anyone who knows a thing about comics knows who Nick Fury is. And he is such a pivotal character in the Marvel Universe, both ultimate, 616, and beyond.

Oh no, he only gets 5 million dollars instead of 10 million... cry me a fucking river Sammy. I'm so sick of these rich actors acting like the economy is hitting them hard. Hell, I'd play Nick Furry for 40,000, and enjoy doing it. If I made 5 million a film, I'd never have to work again after one movie. These actors can just fuck off.

Vis, ask any normal person if they have ever heard of Nick Fury and 98% will say no. If you say "Spiderman", everyone knows who he is. That's my point.

MB, we wouldn't have a problem, like I said, if they didn't actually base Ultimate Fury off of Jackson. The fact that they actually got him to play the role, even for 25 seconds, is big. Google Ultimate Nick Fury. Now it won't seem right. But, also like I said, it's better they recast him IF he isn't coming back than go with the white version

I kinda agree with MovieBuff. Sure, Jackson made a cool Nick Fury, but it was for such a short time that it really didn't matter. All it really was supposed to do was make all the Iron Man nerds (like myself) get giddy and shit their pants knowing that Marvel crossovers would begin. This is no big deal. If he comes back, that'll be sweet because Jackson's a good actor. But if he doesn't, I won't be losing any sleep over it.

If the Nick Fury character is going to be recast... now is the time. Sam Jackson appeared in the freaking cookie during the end credits people. His role was very very small. He had 25 seconds of air time. Some of you are talking insane... like Sam Jackson was born for this part. The movie is still gonna kill without Jackson. Pleeeease.

Now Samuel L. Jackson

January 14th, 2009 2:16pm
haha so true, there is a problem when you base a character off a real life person, when it comes to the big screen (as everything does) you only want one person to do it.

January 14th, 2009 2:13pm
Yeah, it is. It's not confirmed yet, though, so hopefully Jackson comes back. If not, I guess we've gotta deal and hope someone like Foxx gets it lol It wouldn't be as complicated if Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch didn't actually base thier Fury off of Jackson, then this would be nothing.

i could deal with jamie fox...but i dunno Sam Jackson is Ultimate Fury...its tough
  (Delete)
January 14th, 2009 1:49pm
I'd rather they recast him than change it from Ultimate to 616 Marvel. It would be much easier to explain recasting Sam Jackson than explaining the switch from a black guy to a white guy lol How about Jamie Foxx? Maybe I'm just throwing out black actors names, but if Jackson doesn't return for whatever stupid reason, maybe he could do it. He'd done bad ass before..thoughts?

I'd only be ok with this if they change from Ultimate Fury to classic Fury, other then that id be pretty upset.

Also in regards to whoever said the they didnt know who Nick Fury was must not be actual comic fans. The only person who MIGHT be more important the Director Fury is Captain America.Nick Fury is and has been a pivotal character in the Marvel universe since his creation. For instance if it wasn't for Fury and his secret commandos the Earth would have just recently been successfully invaded by the Skrulls in Secret Invasion. Don't call yourself a comic fan if you dont know who Fury is, plain and simple.

damn, SLJ has to have this role. Terrance Howard being gone aint that big a deal. Jamie Foxx has him spot on...
