David Cronenberg Will Direct The Fly Reboot

Source:  Risky Business Blog
David Cronenberg Will Direct The Fly RebootIn a story from the Risky Business Blog, David Cronenberg will be re-directing a new version of his 1986 film, The Fly.

The Canadian director will be developing the film he made for Fox. He might even write this new version.

Apparently, Cronenberg wanted nothing to do with a Fly remake. He did however work on an opera version of the film "that was staged first in Paris and then in Los Angeles."

In David Cronenberg's remake of the 1958 classic, Jeff Goldblum played Seth Brundle, a young scientist on the verge of creating "TelePods," a machine that teleports a person from one TelePod to another. He is also falling in love with Veronica Quaife (Geena Davis), a reporter helping him with, what they think is, the "story of the year." But the only problem is, the TelePods won't transport matter, and when they do, what happens isn't a pretty sight. After Seth irons all the bugs out of the Pods, he uses the first human test subject: himself.

But a common housefly entered the Pod with him, and the machine spliced their DNA together. As Seth's strength starts to increase along with his anger, the fly genes inside of him start to awaken and Seth begins an evolution from human to a horrific man/insect creature he calls "BrundleFly." He can still find a cure, but what lengths will he go to cure himself before he turns into BrundleFly completely?

The Fly II came out three years later.

It is believed that new CGI and effects have evolved so much that that this had a big hand in Cronenberg's decision to come back to the franchise.

Its not a reboot. From how I read, it is a third and distant installment. So for fans and non fans this will be pretty cool guys.

becasue every movie from the 80's must be remade.

The guy was talking about when he tried to transport the baboon and it turned inside out. Not when Seth transported himself. I think a reboot if made by Cronenberg can be good if he doesn't copy the story word for word.

Interesting but I prefer the original, the first remake was all right and I did see the sequel but the first is in a class of it's own. That you can't recapture.

I think this will be a threequel, but it probably won't rely nearly as heavily on the first two films for background.

note to the reporter who wrote this:"won't transport LIVE MATTER"!!! what happenned to the pods was the following... the computer wasn't educated to transport two different D.N.A. patterns at the same time, and "creatively" decided to process them as one. i'm all for the re-inventing of this movie with C.G.I.FX though.

I vconcur, but i don't believe this will be a reboot, just a third installment...Because he didn't want to do the reboot right, so why choose to do it now?

I reckon this will be a third installment rather than a reboot, Cronenberg doesn't seem like the kind of guy to remake/reboot his own films

Yeah, The Fly doesn't need to be updated at all. But if its gonna get done, who better than Cronenberg?

That's just great... I hear they are remaking MICHAEL JACKSON'S THIS IS IT too! Apparently, it has been getting raves from janitors that happen by the editing room.

There is nothing good that can come out of this. Please don't remake/reboot one of my favorite movies of all time. I don't care who is directing it.

I like the original just fine, it be nice if CGI wasn't seen as the solution as making everything look better. The costumes and puppetry of The Fly, The Thing and Alien is a lost art. That to me is what made things creepy, something that looked and moved in an unnatural manner. All this perfection through CGI takes away from that element. The only thing I can say about this is at least Cronenberg hey have coming back for the remake. Otherwise I say, no need.

It would be nice if companies instead rereleased old movies in the theaters, kind of how they did for the Exorcist. I would love to see some of the classics on the big screen.
