Superman: The Man of Steel, the sequel to Bryan Singer's
Superman Returns, may be on hold - possibly indefinitely, according to a recent report in
Variety. Between the WGA strike, and disappointing returns from
Superman Returns, Warner Bros. is debating how best to proceed with the franchise.
According to their report, the screenwriters for
Superman Returns, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris, opted out of working
Superman: The Man of Steel, and the WGA strike hit just as other writers were being solicited for script ideas.
Bryan Singer's representatives at William Morris say that "
Superman: The Man of Steel is moving forward with Bryan Singer attached." But insiders at Warner Bros say that the film is not on any fast track, and that it is possible that Singer will not be attached as the director.
