Jericho Is Coming Back to CBS

Source:  Variety
CBS is readying a plan to bring Jericho back to life. According to Variety, the show will possibly be renewed for at least six or seven more episodes.

CBS cancelled the series last month. The fan reaction to this decision has been deafening. They've shipped the television station pounds and pounds of peanuts to get their point across. They also found one of the executive's cell phone numbers and left so many heated messages, the poor guy had to change his number.

The channel is hoping to take advantage of all the press the fans have brought to the show. Jericho's Carol Barbee stated "I really think that what has been learned here is that networks are going to have to look at numbers and who is watching their show and who is downloading their show in a different way from here on out. I think they have to understand that the Nielsens are not telling the story anymore and that the 18-49 demographic they're all so keen on is online and that's how increasingly they are getting their news and entertainment."

UPDATE: OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM CBS:
To the Fans of Jericho:
Wow!

Over the past few weeks you have put forth an impressive and probably unprecedented display of passion in support of a prime time television series. You got our attention; your emails and collective voice have been heard.

As a result, CBS has ordered seven episodes of "Jericho" for mid-season next year. In success, there is the potential for more. But, for there to be more Jericho, we will need more viewers.

A loyal and passionate community has clearly formed around the show. But that community needs to grow. It needs to grow on the CBS Television Network, as well as on the many digital platforms where we make the show available.

We will count on you to rally around the show, to recruit new viewers with the same grass-roots energy, intensity and volume you have displayed in recent weeks.

At this time, I cannot tell you the specific date or time period that Jericho will return to our schedule. However, in the interim, we are working on several initiatives to help introduce the show to new audiences. This includes re-broadcasting Jericho on CBS this summer, streaming episodes and clips from these episodes across the CBS Audience Network (online), releasing the first season DVD on September 25 and continuing the story of Jericho in the digital world until the new episodes return. We will let you know specifics when we have them so you can pass them on.

On behalf of everyone at CBS, thank you for expressing your support of Jericho in such an extraordinary manner. Your protest was creative, sustained and very thoughtful and respectful in tone. You made a difference.

Sincerely,
Nina Tassler
President, CBS Entertainment
P.S. Please stop sending us nuts J

I'm in the same boat as rodnjc1. Just started watching about a month ago (online) and love it. Good quality television. I really hope it comes back for more seasons!

I am a 53 year old guy who along with a female friend of mine just discovered Jericho about three weeks ago. We watched two episodes of season two and thought it looked like a great series! We researched the show and found out that we could watch the entire first season online at CBS.com. So between there and re-broadcasts on the Sci-Fi channel and DVD on NetFlix we caught up and watched all of the first season. And then we watched second season right up through the "Series Finale"! THE WHAT???!!! Wait! We absolutely love this show and you're going to end it just when the war begins??? We love "Lost" on ABC but Jericho is way better! Hey CBS you've got the best tv series out there and you're going to cancel it? No wonder you're last in the ratings war! RJ & MM!

From Georgia, I just want to express our great gratitude for the recent 7 episodes and to convey how much we enjoyed them. You left us on quite a cliffhanger so please, please encourage the network to bring us back next season. I know from our house Jericho night is beloved all around and it is a great time for our family to enjoy and connect on the multi-generational love of the American spirit.
Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
The Newby Family
