New Line has set veteran writer Wesley Strick to pen the script for the new
Nightmare on Elm Street series, according to
The Hollywood Reporter.
The original
Nightmare On Elm Street was written and directed by Wes Craven and released in 1984. It created one of the most popular villains in screen history, Freddy Krueger, played by Robert Englund, and its runaway success spawned a slew of sequels.
The films' premise centered on Krueger, a serial child killer murdered who returns with a burned face and razor glove to terrorize teens in their dreams.
The new project will keep the high school setting and delve deeper in the psychology of nightmares and Krueger himself. The plan is to have a dark tone.
The company hopes to have the movie ready for the 25th anniversary of the original. But no production date has been set.

i really hopethey dont try to spoil it by changing things to be fancy like they did with the new halloween..mike myers escapeing cus the gaurds were to busy raping a woman...er no.
Films like this arent really ment to be too main stream so it has to be rated r and be really dark, how else can you explain a mass murderer killing kids an then been set on fire an then eventually ressurected.
i disagree.
in my opinion rob't englund is too old.
but im willing to agree to disagree, without getting all uppity about it.
As for Robert Englund being 60/too old to play the part, I don't think so. He could do the acting parts, the stunt double, the action. His face would be covered with extensive makeup anyway...Harrison Ford is like 65 and he pulled off Indy4.
I look forward to seeing this reboot.
i better go smoke a cigarette and pray to the movie-gods for forgiveness.
so the original was good?
i wasnt too keen on the matt damon one.
it just wasnt for me, but ill check out the original if i stumble across it. thanks for the heads up.
"An ambitious and near insanely violent gangster climbs the ladder of success in the mob, but his weaknesses prove to be his downfall"
and the main character is tony camonte, not too far off from 'tony montana', so i guess youre right.
my bad.
really scarface? are you sure it doesnt just share a title with an old mobster flick?
maybe i should do some research real quick before i go arguing the point.
brb.
then again its a cronenberg flick, back when he was still doing horror, and he's my favorite director, so of course im going to agree, but its still a great friggin movie.
Don't get me wrong. There ARE some remakes that outclass the originals (aka Bourne Identity (2002), Scarface (1983), Cape Fear (1991), The Fly (1986) and The Thing (1982)) but most of the time, they can't hold a candle to them. Bet you didn't know some of the movies I mentioned were actually remakes, huh?
