EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Dragonball Evolution Cast Brings the Anime to Life

Source:  Brian Gallagher
It was one of the most popular anime series on TV and one of the most popular manga's before that. Now the fans can finally see their favorites like Goku, Bulma, Chi Chi and the villain Piccolo brought to life before their eyes in Dragonball Evolution, which hits theaters nationwide on April 10. I had the chance to speak with Justin Chatwin, who plays young Goku, who discovers his hidden powers on his 18th birthday, Emmy Rossum who plays the feisty Bulma, a scientist who is searching for her father's stolen Dragonball, Jamie Cheung, who plays Chi Chi, the lovely fighting goddess that catches Goku's eye, and James Marsters, who plays the villain Piccolo, who is trying to capture all seven Dragonballs so he can conquer the earth. bad acting, mispronunciation, talking casually about ki was unrealistic and anti-modernist, bad acting from all but piccolo and roshi, although roshi etc. were over the top with cheesy anime drivel that should have stayed in the series, everyone knows the characters are comical in personality, but not retarded. dbz etc. were held together by action and drama, all the else was filler. the makers of the movie only need to look up the ss2 gohan vs. cell scenes to get the gyst of it. this isnt fantastic four. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sTaP4djYOg&fmt=18 and what was with the candles and healing with ki, or "key". ffs its "kai", japan thought this was crap, so maybe the creators were too worried about them than what they wanted to do. either that or they all need to be fired except roshi and piccolo, as we all know that these two can do it in a better environment, and if you kept the others when you could trade out it would contradict the whole '7 years have passed thing', thats why chow and james are better left, because they can be good after wong is fired etc. etc. but their characters are 'ripe' if you get me. makes it ideal for a swap out. sorry that im dragging on but i want to make an impression. dragonball should idolise what transformers did, with a hint of matrix coolness or whatever

movie was shit, fox better pump the cash into the next one considering everyone knows that they didnt have any faith in it when they said they did, kick out james wong and everyone etc. except chow-yun, and james marsters who would actually be very good under the right conditions (makes sense anyway because all the others grow up. get the nolans to do something with new script or something (they did dark knight) and get like frank miller or michael bay on it to direct, as wong thought it was a kids program. true fans know this is wrong, all the anime b.s. is expected in cartoon because its an anime, and needs filler, ergo no talking animals. no cheesy dialogue or some shit. dont use ki to heal. and ffs get the picture, ACTUALLY WATCH DBZ!!! not db or dbgt - DBZ! the heart of the show, a powerhouse action packed dramatic epic about power, loss and conflict. and give it a 15 rating aim please. TRANSFORMERS got 150 mill, dragonball is the most popular export in japan, and this got 40! this is not fantastic four, put your serious faces on fox, whoever pitched this is a prick, he obviously didnt show the dramatic key extracts from dbz that should reflect the atmosphere - ss2 gohan etc. get bryan singer in with a big budget, hed clean it up. think 300/ transformers/ matrix for approaching this, and with a big budget, good script and renewed actors, along with dbz's massive potential - especially the frieza one, we can forget this abomination.

why in the fuck could they not just follow the dbz saga's. piccolo was all wrong. from Grandpa Gohan being killed by piccolo to the goku turning into the ape IT"S A GAINT FUCKING APE not a little ape where was goku's tail so he could turn into the ape. the whole fucking movie was bad. And im a BIG BIG BIG dbz dbgt fan. I was hoping the movie would have been better.

Im a huge DBZ fan, I've purchased all the seasons and some of the games.
The problem with this movie is that it was average but we all knew it couldn't be average. Yes some of the lines were corny but so was the t.v. show. and they definitely could've found a more convincing Goku, I don't think there's any doubt about that. Hopefully they realize there problems and fix them before they get to the more important story lines. And hopefully the more complex characters like Vegeta can pick up the next films and keep it in respects to the manga.

Ever seen that episode of Robot Chicken, where they had "Pluto Nash Day?" Where that horrible Pluto Nash abomination bombed on it's opening day and everyone at Fox studios was committing suicide? They need to remake that episode and rename it "Dragonball Evolution Day..." And that's going to be friday. May God save us all. For I can see it now, not only will Fox executives die, but so will Dragonball fans. It will be the largest man-made disaster since... well, I don't know. There's nothing horrific enough to compare to this pile of garbage. >:-(

I don't understand how in every interview Justin says he "Really wanted to do justice to the manga and character of Goku" and shit. He acts like Justin the whole movie, with no love for fighting, and no characteristics of Goku whatsoever. At least he was right about fans having problems with this "adaptation".
