Sam Worthington to Witness The Last Days of American Crime
November 19th, 2009
In a story from Mania, comic guru/screenwriter Rick Remender is reporting that Sam Worthington has inked a deal to appear in a film version of the upcoming Radical Publishing comic, The Last Days of American Crime.Remender created and wrote the comic (he is also writing the screenplay) which is illustrated by Greg Tocchini.
The story is set in near-future America. The government "is set to roll out mind-control technology that will kill the criminal impulse in all citizens. Chaos descends on America's cities as the country braces for the new order. Career criminal Graham Brick is forced to accelerate the heist of his career with an untested new crew in order to beat the deadline."
Worthington will play the role of Kevin Cash. He is a safecracker who gets hired for a heist at the eleventh hour. Remender had this to say about the story:
"It's really motivated by Mamet's Heist film and James Ellroy's [novel] 'American Tabloid'. Ellroy being an example of the kind of hard-boiled crime that has a socio-political backdrop and Mamet's Heist a very well-thought out film that focuses on the heist itself."
Issue One of The Last Days of American Crime comes to comic stores in December.
