Ridley Scott Set to Direct the Alien Prequel!

Source:  Variety
Ridley Scott Set to direct the Alien PrequelTwentieth Century Fox is bringing back the Alien franchise, signing on Jon Spaihts to write a prequel for Ridley Scott to reprise his role as director.

According to Variety, Spaihts pitched to the studio and Scott Free, which will produce the film.

The film is set up to be a prequel to the groundbreaking 1979 film that Scott directed. It will precede that film, in which the crew of a commercial towing ship returning to Earth is awakened and sent to respond to a distress signal from a nearby planetoid. The crew discovers too late that the signal generated by an empty ship was meant to warn them.

The deal gives Fox another chance to keep the Alien franchise alive. There were three sequels to Scott's original, but it is the first time the director has set his mind on directing one.

No production date has been set.

hopefully the people making this film have more knowledge of the series than the 'fans' on this page do..
there is no alien homeworld. the jockeys created the xenomorph as a biological planetary bombardment..
they were in constant civil war and they riddled eggs on enemy planetoids, once infestation had completed, the horde was drawn to a central location and nuked.
a film about the jockeys would be very interesting, but to be good it would have to be very abstract..

I like your OR option Radimus. That's what was always so cool about the Space Jockey. You never knew anything about it. And they should keep it that way. Maybe they'll go to the REAL Xenomorph homeworld which has yet to be seen?

I wonder how they are going to tie in the Alien space ship that was sending out the distress warning signal at the start of Alien. It's pretty obvious that the story is gonna be 80% human characters. So how do they involve a monster space craft with a 40 foot alien at the driver seat?

OR, maybe they won't even bother!

Excellent news! Knowing Riddley Scott he'll only go for it if the story's REALLY good, seeing as many franchise original installment directors refuse to return to said franchises to film sequels no matter how much $$$ they're offered. Also if they keep HRG's artwork from the original intact, then it'll be 50% better.

Jeremy Irons, rules along with Alan Rickman :D
lol just noticed they both are die hard villains lol, and brothers, in the franchise.

I mean come on...Scar from Lion King, is wicked. I want him to do Smaug's voice, but to save production money i bet Andy Serkis will do it

I love Jeremy Irons. I wish we saw more of him actually.

Yep apparently, i never envisioned Bale as Solid, so i have no idea where that rumour about him playing MGS came from, but i did hear about the rumour.
Sorry Hugh Jackman for Solid Snake, all the way.

Maybe JEH or Jeremy Irons for Liquid, but i dont think they have the balls to fill such a character.

Hmmmm i still find Superman doing the matrix dodge very iffy, and i hate that if they do it, it will bombarded with SFX

Haha. Wait J.a... Bale likes Metal Gear Solid? Ahaha. Well if what you say is true and the Wachowskis are leading directors for Supes, I am perfectly fine with that as long as its in their Bound/Matrix style and not Speed racer style.

And also here is a little interesting tidbit, Angelina Jolie claims she is not allowing Megan Fox to take her role as Lara Croft.
She feels its a character she helped refine and design to the screen and states, that she won't allow anyone to take the character away from her, as she believes that, the connections between her and Foxx, started there with the comparisons that both actresses were up for the role.
But apparently Jolie has first choice, cause she had a 2-film contract with optional decision of renewing the contract for future installments.
So it looks like Jolie is Lara Croft, once again...

And Christian Bale has come forth and denied all the rumours connecting him with the MGS film adaptation, stating that although he loves the game, he has not been offered in any form a role in the film, if it happens, which is unlikely.

Sorry to go off topic

AvP 2 was not as bad as you make it out to be. AvP 1 was much worse. I can't believe you didn't list that but you tell us how much you dislike the 2nd one lol?

Personally, for me, having those TWO alien types in one movie doesn't really need a deep plot. It could probably get one, but realistically though, all it is Predators killing Aliens, plain and simple. I thought AvP2 was bad ass. It was a HUGE step up from the corny AvP 1. I was so happy to see the violence they are known for, and the fact that the new Predator in AvP 2 was done justice, he was bad ass. He killed a lot of fucking aliens lol. Whereas in the first film they did that stupid "they are evenly matched" bullshit by killing Predators. Yes I know some predators would die against hundreds or less of aliens but not a one on one unless they were being sneaky. So definitely a step up in direction for both creatures for sure in AvP2. The plot really didn't bother me cause I didn't care about the people to begin with (which is part of the bad plot I suppose). I just wanted to see some shit get fucked up and it just that, even the military got involved in good ol' aliens fashion and they all got pwned quickly lol.

This is fine with me, as long as some sort of justice is done after the complete disaster that AvP2 was. I still don't understand why those iconic figures(Alien and Predator) where put in the hands of ameture filmmakers. There was basically no story in that garbage movie. It was set up like a bad sci-fi soap opra, or some stupid porn movie. Anyway, AvP2 is on my "Worst of 2008" list on my profile. It is also literally, one of the worst movies, I think, ever made.

Granted, mystery is good like you have all said, but then again, there are some interesting questions that are posed, who were on that ship and who was the person who set up that "warning" beacon? And if you were trying to keep people away from that place why would you want something that makes noise and attracts other ships if there nearby lol? I hope they argue about that in this movie when they are turning it on. I also wanna know where the Queen is that layed all those eggs on that ship they went to. There were like no aliens anywhere, just eggs. Don't you think that's kinda weird? Almost like it was a setup by the company (like in Aliens). For all we know that ship that was found by Ripley and crew could have been something important, maybe the people in that ship found an alien hive on the planet or something and they all got cocooned in some underground/cave structures (since the horizon was dangerously windy and you couldn't see anything) and that's where the alien hive is on that planet/rock or whereever they are I can't exactly rememeber lol. I didn't really like the first movie other than the part of the finding of the ship, the facehugger, and that's about it. I don't really like frustrating movies where you're yelling at the tv for the people to do stuff, I hate that lol. You guys know what I'm talking about, especially in todays "horror" movies where the characters are completely fucking retarded and you're like "why would you go IN there?" lol

I know I posted it before, but Cameron was willing to do another Aliens movie based on an idea he had. Fox instead went with those terrible AvP movies and Cameron moved on...such a pity. Though I am pumped for his next project.

I don't know I think the franchise could us a reboot from Scott. Anything is better that doing a follow-up sequel with the Ripley charater. There is plenty of meat for a prequel, and Scott is the man.

The prequel needs to end with the ship crashing on the planet and sending a signal for a warning, a time warp, showing the passing of time like a high speed camrea to give time frame from the crash until the first movei,,then like a cameo of the first ship coming for the first movie..
