Samuel Bayer to Direct A Nightmare on Elm Street
February 12th, 2009
According to Risky Business Blog, it looks like Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes and New Line Cinema have tapped director Samuel Bayer for the new A Nightmare on Elm Street. The film is a franchise restart that centers on the dream-invading serial killer, Freddy Krueger.
Wesley Strick is writing the screenplay.
It looks like this new A Nightmare on Elm Street will borrow a lot from the 1984 version.

Bayer had nothing to do with the pre-production or production stages of Alpha Dog, just post-production.
This is my opinion on what you've mentioned about directors and sequels, generally i reckon that people don't care about them because they've seen the original, and as long as that original film is commericial and successful enough to warrant a sequel, then nothing else matters, the sequel just has to be bigger and better, which is reasons why successful franchises tend to have bigger budget sequels.
But because people have seen and loved the originals and see them in a sought of classic film, they tend to get this genearic expectations that the sequel has to be much better than the first (which it never usually is).
But i agree lol you can tell when the mum gets dragged through the window in the end you can clearly see its a doll lol, but they only had like one day to shoot that scene and also they were out of budget lol.
But since Wes craven got stuck on how to begin a Nightmare Prequel or even think of any ideas and complicated matters arised at getting the subsidary rights for the character of Ash off Sam Raimi.
I guess they decided to drop both of them and just do a remake of both franchises.
Bayer ain't a new director, his been in the business for years, it just that he has never worked on a film slated as the director's position, he did titles for Alpha Dog (the one with Justin Timberlake).
He has a current directorial role on a film called Fiasco Heights which is a thriller about a hitman, a failed private eye and their search for a missing woman and a valuable brief case, which is due out this year.
Other than that all his credentials are Music Videos for mainly rock bands, according to a bit i found out the only thing i've seen that he has directed is the music video to
Green Day - Boulveyard of Broken Dreams.
The rest of his directed music video credentials i haven't seen.
But this team that has been made doesn't work,
Samuel Bayer & Wesley Strick.
A veteran screenwriter (of weak horror, Doom... his best credntials are Archanophobia & Wolf)
With a veteran music video director.
directing and writing a remake of one of the biggest horror iconic characters and franchise of classic early 80s horror

WOOP DEEE DOOO.
in the 1990s ted turner was constantly colorizing classic b/w films that didn't need to be colorized, and it drove people crazy.
in the 2k's michael bay is remaking classic horror movies that dont need to be remade, and its driving people crazy.
i dont have any conclusions from this concept, but its something that crossed my mind and i thought id share it with you folks.
LOL Killerman it looks like we have something in common, A Nightmare On Elm Street is also my favourite horror film ever.
LEAVE IT ALONE AND COME UP WITH YOUR OWN NEW SHIT....STOP REMAKING MOVIES THAT DO NOT NEED TO BE REMADE....
WHAT'S NEXT?..OH LEMME GUESS THE REBOOT OF CRITTERS?!
