Mark Millar has made a name for himself in the graphic novel world, but now he wants to put his stamp on the movie world in a very big way, with a reboot of
Superman.
Empire recently talked to Millar, who created the graphic novels that
Wanted and the forthcoming
Kick-Ass are based on, has been pitching huge
Superman reboot.
Millar revealed that his version would be an 8-hour, three-film series, with the films to be released in consecutive years. He is apparently working with a "big Hollywood action director" who he will not reveal at this time, and he calls this new take, "the Magnum Opus of
Superman stories."
"It's gonna be like Michael Corleone in
The Godfather films, the entire story from beginning to end, you see where he starts, how he becomes who he becomes, and where that takes him.
The Dark Knight showed you can take a comic book property and make a serious film, and I think the studios are ready to listen to bigger ideas now."
Millar got into more detail, adding, "I want to start on Krypton, a thousand years ago, and end with
Superman alone on Planet Earth, the last being left on the planet, as the yellow sun turns red and starts to supernova, and he loses his powers."
We'll be sure to keep you posted on any developments in Millar's
Superman pitch.

Mmmm bad to bad for a history. Superman is dead.
Cameron was a choice others thought of first, but I just agreed with them.
Still, aren't they using Singer anymore. I hear nobody has mentioned him on this thread.
I mean he didn't do to bad on it. I thought it was good, just slow.
"End with Superman alone on Planet Earth, the last being left on the planet, as the yellow sun turns red and starts to supernova, and he loses his powers." That's bad ass, and if they do this right, it could be awesome.
Directors? After all I've read, I'd definitely love to see Peter Jackson (but another trilogy - would he do it; he didn't want to do The Hobbit). James Cameron needs to come back, and I don't think Avator's going to be that come back. This might be it. Steven Spielburg? He's one of my favorite directors; but I just don't see it.
Sounds good either way...
If not, I think either Cameron or Abrams should direct.
coast2coast, I hadn't even thought of that!
Danny Boyle would be awesome...
But he's not a big Hollywood action director...
but I'd really like it if it was him!
WEEEEEW!
Go for it! Make the Movie!
We're all behind you.
I actually think the best open suggestion I've heard is James Cameron. If he sticks closely to millar's script and hires capable actors, he could do all right.
But, my favorite for this one would probably be JJ Abrams. As much as I hate LOST, the man has a talent for all things nerdy; making them original while sticking to the source material is a feat we have yet to see from him though, so we'll see what happens with Star Trek.
Maybe J.J. Abrams. i mean I loved the way he directed MI3.
WHO'S THE DIRECTOR!?!?!?!?!
Peter Jackson may have the vision needed to pull this out. Paul Greengrass and Wolfgang Peterson would make great choices, but I'm for Jackson. Going back to Lord of the Rings, this could be his kind of epic. I take a complete pass on George Lucas, but Steven Spielberg...Hmmmm
