Is Director Matt Reeves Already Thinking About a Cloverfield Sequel?

Source:  Bloody Disgusting
Bloody Disgusting was on the Cloverfield red carpet tonight for the premier of the film. While chatting with director Matt Reeves, the subject of a sequel came up. This is what he had to say:

"Only time will tell. While we were on set making the film we talked about the possibilities and directions of how a sequel can go. The fun of this movie was that it might not have been the only movie being made that night, there might be another movie! In today's day and age of people filming their lives on their iphones and handy cams, uploading it to youtube...That was kind of exciting thinking about that."

That's right. The plan that is being talked about right now is for the sequel to take place from the perspective of someone else's camera on that same night. To keep costs low, I heard a rumor that Cloverfield 2 would be shot using a cell phone camera.

In the FINAL, FINAL scene of the film we see Beth and Rob on a Ferris wheel at Coney Island. He pans the camera to his left to shoot the ocean and if you look to the far right of the screen you will see what appears to be the monster falling out of the sky and into the water. IN AN UPDATE: B-D reader 'afireinside' tells us, "JJ stated himself that the monster has been down at the bottom of the ocean for thousands of years. What fell into the ocean at the end of the movie was a satellite. If you pay attention to the viral marketing, Taragutu's site states that one of their satellites fell out of orbit and was lost. This is what woke up the monster from its dormant state." You be the judge....

In addition, at the end of the credits an audio clip reveals that the monster is not yet dead.

wow some bold things to say to people andrewryan. you wont make many friends on here that way. but i think they could do a sequel and do it from real cameras, not from home cameras or phone cameras or any of that. it will broaden our minds, make the effects alot more powerful and allow us to get more into depth of where the monster came from and everything.

Anybody who says this movie was terrible should be stabbed in the eye with a fork. The beauty of Cloverfield is that it isn't ur average monster movie-it's unique and realistic. Matt Reeves is brilliant with this movie. As for a sequel, I'd love to see one, but not on the same night, especially not with a camera phone. A user on this site said that at the end of the credits, if u reverse the audio, or somethin like that, it says "It's still alive." They should follow up with that, have a different attack, maybe in a defferent city, and have it even more unique. Maybe give more of a background on the monster and add even more to it. A sequel would be brilliant, just not in the same way that they are suggesting. I'd still watch it though. ;)

I for one thought cloverfield was one of the most unique and entertaining movies i have seen in a long time! and i for one would be extatic to see any sequel coem form this movie, so we can leran more about what is actually going on with this monster, where it came from, and what the slusho company has to do with all this

"I just got back from seeing it with my boy....Would somebody out there for once just make a decent Godzilla movie!!!!!For godsakes with the special effect capabilities today you would think when the name Godzilla is mentioned in a quote, reveiw, posting or whatever,,that you would get what you've paid for".
"I understand this was not suppose To be the BigGuy in this movie,,,But JJ's quote saying that this is suppose to be Americas own Godzilla??,,come on"
"I read every posting and speculation on this movie I could find because I was so dissapointed with the last time the states tried to make a monster movie(godzilla 1998)that I was really looking foward to this one...DENIED!!!!!!!!!
"Anyways,,here's a thought,,,How's about a movie about a Massive,Indistructable reptile that was created from atomic energy,Impervious to all firepower, and capable of releasing a blast of blue fire from it's mouth by drawing energy from plates on it's back!!!!!?!!An absolute unstopable force.."
"No eating fish,No laying GD eggs,,,And by the way,,COULD YOU HOLD THE DAM CAMERA STILL SO WE CAN SEE WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON"!!!!!!!........."

thats actually a pretty creative idea the only unrealstic part is that cell phones could hold an hour and half worth of video

thats very gay. what could possibly happen differently and even more exciting in a sequel with different characters with the same plot? there is nothing more to show after the first one. other than the monsters continuous destruction across the united states
