In an interesting twist of fate, it seems that Marvel is seeking out yet another actor in the midst of a long awaited comeback to go toe-to-toe with Robert Downey Jr. in Jon Favreau's upcoming sequel
Iron Man 2. According to
Variety, Mickey Rourke is currently in talks to play the villian opposite Downey Jr.'s hero in this new action adventure. And Sam Rockwell is set to play Justin Hammer, a multibillionaire businessman and a rival of industrialist Anthony Stark.
In the upcoming sequel, Rourke will play
Iron Man's nemesis Crimson Dynamo. The character has been described as Tony Stark's Russian alter ego. He is a heavily tattooed bruiser involved in the arms trade. And he will battle
Iron Man in his own nuclear powered suit. A report from
The Hollywood Reporter has different take on the villian, though. They say that Rourke will be playing a Russian heavy named Ivan who becomes Whiplash, a man with deadly, technologically enhanced coils.
So, which is it? Whiplash or Crimson Dynamo? At this time, the heavily guarded script is still being written. The nature of Rourke's inclusion in the story is all speculative. The film is set for a May 7th, 2010 release date.

favreau really knows how to pick 'em, i take back every bad thing i ever said about the guy.
...well, not EVERY bad thing, but still.
""Mandarin is still an important figure in the Iron Man universe (Favreau) said. "We have an interesting take on him that allows us to incorporate the whole pantheon of villains."
Favreau has yet to clarify the statement-it's possible the Mandarin could summon a troupe of villains to oppose Stark-but (Matt) Fraction advises not to expect the standard-issue depiction of the main antagonist. "It's tough when you've got a guy with a Fu Manchu mustache and imperial robes," he says. "You can bring a mature and fully formed character to the screen that doesn't play on stereotypes."
However he's formed, it's possible Mandarin will remain a string-pulling puppeteer than someone with as much screen time as the first film's villain, Obadiah Stane..."
SO, there's still a possibility Mandarin will be in the sequel, but in the background pulling the strings...maybe Dynamo's. We'll see
because the terrorist group in the first was The Ten Rings. Which was his weapon in comics.
perhaps this movie shall also bring to light another clue
Erm you guys do realise Iron Man is set to be a trilogy?
I reckon Mandarin will be left for the grand finale...
Wasn't War Machine a Iron Man Villain as well?
