It seems that the
2012 director's biggest film might be sequelized after all... perhaps.
Latino Review recently spoke with director Roland Emmerich about the possibilities for a sequel to the 1996 summer blockbuster
Independence Day.
Dean Devlin and I are still set to make a sequel likely because we've found some sort of idea and we approached FOX and FOX has not quite figured out how to incorporate Dean's and my deal, and Will's (Smith) deal. Will wants to do it in some sort of a package they can live with. So it's just been in negations now since forever, and naturally FOX says "Why don't you do it without Will Smith?" I said Will is essential for us, for this movie and actually for the audience too. And, so, it's in limbo and lately the studios are fighting. Like gross players, and Will is a gross player and is probably the only gross player right now who's worth his gross. So we'll see what happens. I would love to do it.

to read the rest of the article. We'll certainly keep you posted on any news of an
Independence Day sequel as soon as more information comes in.

He needs to finish some franchises then move on but he won't, he's an intelligent idiot.
Escapist, if you think that that's what Independence Day means, it doesn't. Were you confused into thinking it's meant to be read "Independent Day", as in independent from any other days to be considered a day of independence?
An Independence Day can occur any time we defend our right to live without the control or influence of any entity or governing hierarchy, we feel is oppressing us or does not serve or look out for our best interest. If for some unbelievable reason, a foreign entity came here and tried to rule us, we would declare our independence from them.
Not a big fan so really dont care if they make a sequel cause I aint gonna see it.
Fuck.
Funny how this comes on the heels of District 9 and V. Expect about three different studios to put out their own versions of the same film.
And yeah, I agree. Bring back Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum and they need to bring back Adam Baldwin and give him a more substantial part, where he can kick ass and be a smart ass, like he did on Firefly.
Also, they should bring back Randy Quai... Oh, never mind.
What about Mary McDonn... oh, wait..
Hey, what about Harvey Fierste... Oh yeah..
Well there's always Brent Spinerrrrr.... Damn!
Agreed. There's no need, and it's one of my favorite sci-fi films.
Hollywood, it's okay to have STAND ALONES! :P
Will Smith and his family are sitting around the table waiting for nice hot independence turkey. Will takes a fork to stab it in the turkey but sudenly dead turkey jumpes on his face. He pushes the turkey off his face with anger and sweet words like "What a Fuck!?" (and you are thinking I'm talking about zombie turkeys but you are WRONG!) He looks at the dead meat on the floor then he hears some big noise and everything starts shaking. His kid at the window says:"Daddy, look!" He runs in his backyard. He looks up into the clouds and he sees a bunch of alien starships flying around. He says: "Ou fuck!...Not again! Damn!"
I hope that the actual story begins much better then this. :)
I hope I'm wrong and they come up with a really uniqeu story and of course with Smith and Goldblum on the board.
"Independence Day" was 1 of the worst films of 1996!!
