Sir Ian McKellan Is 'Desperate' to Play Gandalf in The Hobbit
March 10th, 2008
Sir Ian McKellan stands ready to reprise his role as Gandalf in the new film adaptation of The Hobbit. Speaking to WWEN, McKellan, who played the role in all three of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films, insists that he is the best choice for the role, even though Jackson may not be directing The Hobbit.McKellan said of his desire to return to the part I certainly hope it's true - have you got anybody else who you think should be doing it?"
McKellen isn't the only Lord of the Rings veteran who would like to return for The Hobbit. Elijah Wood has also expressed an interest in reviving his role as Frodo Baggins.
New Line Cinema has not, as yet, stated when they will begin production on The Hobbit. A director has not yet officially been named either, though Guillermo del Toro is considered the front-runner.

Andy Serkis as Gollum, who else could do the role? if McKellen is Gandalf then Serkis has to be Gollum.
Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey. nobody but McKellen could even try to pull this off.
John Rhys-Davies as Gloin. in the fellowship he is introduced as Gimli son of Gloin so it is only fitting if he plays his father in this movie. i know that one of the dwarfs in the cartoon hobbit movie is named Gloin.
Hugo Weaving as lord Elrond. if they really want to make this movie live up to the last ones, they have to go all out and get everyone that should return, plus Hugo is a great actor and i can't see anyone else playing his role.
It'd be like old times!
