ReelzChannel talked to JJ Abrams over the weekend at Wondercon 2008 to discuss the current status of the upcoming Star Trek movie as well as the proposed Cloverfield 2 sequel. Take a look below...
I think that's what Abrams is saying (focusing on Star Trek right now). I think he was just responding to questions regarding the sequel.
That said; either way I'd agree...focus on Star Trek (huge fan-based franchise, don't want to smurf it up) is best right now. However, in today's movie marketing strategy you have the "strike while the iron's hot" mentality... so I can see why they'd want to get moving on the Cloverfield sequel.
I think they should leave Cloverfield alone for awhile, it would be something cool to revisit every once in awhile, but I hate the idea that just because a movie is successful it needs an immediate sequel. Abrams should focus all of his creative energy on Star Trek, it's sounds like it's going to need as much help as it can get the way things are shaping up.

Sounds like Cloverfield 2 is not going to be from the first-person perspective (handheld). I had thought that would have been a bad idea...glad to hear they may be thinking the same.
Look, this all I have to say...leave the script for Cloverfield 2 in the trash can where it belongs along with the idea of doing another hand held camera flick, unless you want to supply the dramamine. Let me clarify, and also relay into words what I and about a gagillion other Trekkies are emotionally feeling-it better be nothing less than an A+ effort or your gonna open a world of hurt on your hands. 'Nuff!
Abrams is certainly connected to alot of great projects nowadays. I'd love to see the Dark Tower adaptation. Cloverfield was excellent and I don't know how anyone can say they got motion sickness from it. You're just looking for somethin to complain about.
Star Trek + fan = geek!! same as Star Wars fans! But a Cloverfield sequel awsome. The first was great and i agree with Abrams on the filming of it. But a Dark Tower movie PERFECT it's about damn time that start to get off the ground. Stephen King RULES!!!
