We
reported last month that director Brett Ratner was no longer going to be at the helm of the new
Conan remake, but now it seems a new director has been found. According to
CHUD, Marcus Nispel (
Friday the 13th) will be directing
Conan.
It was said that an August start date was set when Ratner was on board, but it's not clear if they still aim to get the film rolling by then, especially since no cast members have been attached as of yet. The site did also report that a casting announcement was expected soon, and that the title role was expected to go to an unknown actor.
Nispel seems like an ideal choice here after the success of the
Friday the 13th remake... but an unknown actor as
Conan? While the thought of an unknown stepping into such huge, Governator shoes, the more I think about it... who really has the build in Hollywood to pull off Conan these days? Derek Mears the Barbarian, perhaps?....

Hollywood still doesn't know how to make a good fantasty/action film. They will not make this too deep or serious. The studios will try to make this a superhero film and it will fail!
My expectations have been lowered, though, because I do not believe this guy can give us an epic Conan movie
Do you actually believe that this CONAN is going to be based and sourced around the original source material.
I'm getting the feeling it won't be based around the books, i'm spectating they will probably follow the comic stories.
Marcus Nispel create a good Conan, lol, highly unlikely, best cast role for Conan is Roland Kickinger
That's really funny, I guess you never read the old comics but I do agree with you that the stories sucked and I did get your point.
The point ears isn't just what makes Batman Batman...I'll let you process that so I don't have to go on(hint: the story is what makes batman who he is. if the story sucks, like forever and batman and robin, then it's not batman, just a sucky attempt at a batman story).
As for Conan, it WON'T be a remake. They're not remaking the original movie, they're following the original stories more closely, at least that's what I've read and hope they do. Just like Batman Begins followed the comics more closely than Burton or Schumacher
I like Superheroes of all sorts, except for Superman he pretends to be a human and has a heart of gold. How can anyone like the super freak? Only three actors have done a great job, except for the look a like.
As for this film series it shouldn't be a remake at all, it should be with a new body builder that is continuing the adventures of the character.
Because as I recall, there were numerous Batman movies before that that didn't follow the comics.
It's a hardly a remake when they're basing it on the original stories, which the original movie did not do
I guess Kevin Smith was right...
"In Hollywood you kind of fail upwards."
*Sigh*
Raven, Zombie has talent. The more I think about it, Halloween wasn't a horrible movie. I DID state that the only reason I brought him up was because he was rumored for it. I don't WANT him to direct it, but he'd be better than this guy.
I was shooting for Eli Roth, but whatever
P.S. Thanks for fucking up the joke instead writing your comment......or LOL.
of Robert E. Hward's stories of Conan, they should read the original books before they make a movie.BTW i also agree on The Fallen that James McTeigue should have directed the Conan remake,he
has more potential
I'll call out Roland Kickinger for this if shooting with a kind of unknown and if mainstream, i'd vouch Sam Worthington, but with everything he has going on i see this unlikely
I dunno maybe its just me that sees this going more into the fantasy horror direction to wooooo in the young teens, rather than staying fantasy action adventure.
I guess only time will tell.
Also couldn't agree with VIS more the original source needs to be explored.
Also concur with fallen on Mcteigue.
And NO Triple H! For fucksake no wrestlers at all. Please.
Yeah!!!!!!! bow down to the king!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you even realize that Conan was already a pre-existing character before the movie? The movie was not written for Arnold and it wasn't even written with the original source material in mind. Shut the fuck up. Saying no one can play him after Arnold is just ridiculous when, well, there's other people that can do it, and Robert E. Howard's original stories have yet to be explored.
Even "classics" are supposedly based on pre-existing characters, but then fuck them up. Burton's Batman was a good movie, but wasn't anything close to the comics. Then Batman Begins kicked the character into high gear again. The same can happen with Conan. Nothing's written in stone just because your boyfriend the Governator starred in it. That's like saying no one can replace Christopher Reeve as Superman. Was he an amazing Superman? Yes. Are the movies(the first two) great? Yes. Are people still clamoring for a reboot(and rightly so?) YES AGAIN.
People only think hollywood has run out of ideas because it's the remakes and adaptations that get paid the most attention to...like Conan for instance. When a movie is in NEED of a reboot, don't blame Hollywood for wanting to make money off of it. The only reason the old Conan movies are so popular is because of Arnold. They didn't stay true to the stories, so get over the fact that they're "remaking" it when it's hardly a remake at all.
LOL........I wouldn't be surprised if this what I just said turns out to be true. Sad but true. :)
Rob Zombie would have been better. He was rumored for it a while ago, that's the only reason I bring him up
Guess it's better than Brett Ratner
