There's been much talk about the
Oldboy remake, set to star Will Smith with Steven Spielberg directing, and Smith recently had something to say about his new project.
Film School Rejects caught up with Smith at the premiere of
Seven Pounds, where Smith indicated that the film is not a straight-up remake of the original Chan-wook Park film.
We're looking at that right now. Not the film though, it's the original source material. There's the original comics of 'Oldboy' that they made the first film from. And that's what we're working from, not an adaptation of the film...," said Smith.
The article goes on to say that Spielberg didn't purchase the rights to the original film, but he picked up the rights to the comic books. We'll certainly keep you posted on any developments surrounding this new film.

well put ChuChi, it doesnt matter.
Speilberg, great as he is at what he does, can't do dark.
I hope they prove me wrong.
I'd still like to know what the hell your previous comment meant.
So no offense but Fuck you moviemaster
1: The last time a "black person plays a white person" well it was a white person who played a black person (Tropic Thunder) that movie studio was sued becasue they thought it was racist for it.
So no offense but Fuck you 27 club
Well, now that I got that off my chest. WIll Smith is one of my favorite actors, and Steven Spielburg's a great director. This should be good. Never heard of the original before; might have to get a hold of it.
So how the f*** is that any different from what Smith & Spileberg are doing?
So what are they trying to say well this won't be exactly like the way the Psycho remake was done.
I reckon they are just trying to say this crap to avoid the fan uproar made due to the remake of this film happening, because few know that Oldboy was adapted from a comic.
Also when i see the main character i don't visualise Will Smith in the role if it was made by America, i see Al Pacino, he has the scruffy hair to suit the image.
I am still very sceptic to a hollywood remake of this movie.
Will see how it goes.
Anyway check it out, its brilliant!
Come on man, get real.
And you only named 2, thats most of his movies? Wow. As he would say, "D-a-m-n."
