Magnolia Pictures has picked up North American rights to historical action pic Warlords, starring Jet Li and Andy Lau, and is planning a late summer release.

According to Variety, Warlords is set amid the upheaval during the Taiping Rebellion of the 1860s, with Li starring as a general who survives a massacre of his fellow soldiers by playing dead and joins a band of bandits.

The film was a hit in China, winning eight Hong Kong Film Awards, including director for Peter Chan and actor for Li.
