Punisher: War Zone Is Still 'R' Rated

Source:  Raw Studios
Heads up, Punisher fans - Punisher: War Zone will still be an 'R' rated film, and director Lexi Alexander has not been kicked off the film. Ain't It Cool News pointed us to a message from the film's cinematographer Steve Gainer, who posted to the Raw Studios message board to refute the rumors.

Here's what Gainer had to say:
Holy smokes, I go away and shoot some kids stuff for Disney, and the whole world is a different color when I return. Again I appear here to dispel rumors. Please believe:

Lexi is not off the film

Lexi is still involved in the edit process

The film is not (nor could it ever be) PG-13

Today I saw a cut that ran 91 minutes

Lexi did in fact get married

Lexi is an incredibly talented director, and this film kicks major ass, as will be proven when it is released IN THEATRES DECEMBER 5th

The film is most certainly not all exploding heads, but will reveal a great deal of Franks persona and pain
This film has been difficult from the beginning, from a bitter Canadian winter, to endless nights, to rampant sickness, Lexi has fought to make a killer Punisher film for fans and non fans alike.
Initially we were to release in September, but for whatever reason (not the quality of the film or edit IMHO) it was decided to release in December. That extra time has given everyone a chance to put their two cents worth in, but rest assured, Lexi is still stearing the boat, and she is a great captain.

When I hear vicious unfounded troll rumors like the "film was unwatchable" or "a total mess" it makes my blood boil. I want to punish the corrupt. People sit on their fat asses trolling the internet, people that have never even looked through a motion picture camera, and make judgements on a work of art that they've never seen, it's like saying a baby will be ugly before it is born, I can't freaking wait for this film to come out and prove the nay-sayers wrong.

Sorry for the rant, I just love something wonderful you have yet to see-
sg,asc

So, there you have it. We can expect that the final cut of Punisher: War Zone will follow the tone set in the recently released trailer. The film will now explode into the theatres December 5, 2008.

hahahahaha this kid is great. tell you what, its apparent that you are making this so easy on me. first off, you're wrong lol. if you notice his hair was NOT black, it in fact retained its original color and was just wet. if you notice jane was constantly sweating on camera (on purpose of course, giving the character a more stressed outward appearance) btw, you're lil **** are not needed. if your some 13 year old child afraid that your parents will come by and see you are using profane words, then perhaps you're in the wrong place. so again, you're a dumbass. got anything else?

Ultimately the success or failure of this film will ride on Marvel's marketing strategy, which was brilliant for Iron Man but not as brilliant for the 2nd Hulk film. Even though Marvel went out of it's way to address all the issues people had with the first Hulk and really make a very good second film, they unfortunately failed to convince the fanbase of that in their marketing and as a result had a poor turn out. I think the Punisher may be in that same boat, and Marvel is really going to have to juice up their advertising to get people interested.

I didn't have a problem with Thomas Jane as the Punisher(except for his hair it looked like they spray painted it black). My issue was with the direction and the production value. Both were deplorable.

they need to give up trying to recreate the Punisher. I'm sorry I like the Punisher as much as the next comic book fan but to do another reboot after less than four years is ridiculous, and furthermore I thought the Tom Jane Punisher film worked fine. With a better direction and writing Tom Jane could have been the definitive Punisher.

Good news. A PG-13 Punisher would make as much sense as an R-rated Barney movie.

I thought Thomas Jane nailed the Punisher. Why the change?
