Warner Brothers has acquired the rights to the animated classic
Robotech. According to
The Hollywood Reporter, Tobey Maguire is producing the film through his production company Maguire Entertainment with an eye to star in it as well.
Craig Zahler has already been hired to write the screenplay, which will update the cartoon series from 1985. The sci-fi episodic adventure took place on Earth, at a time when the world's leaders had come together to make giant robots from technology that was found on a crashed UFO. Mankind is forced to use their new robots to fend off three separate alien attacks.
The film is set to become a major franchise for Warner Brothers. Maguire stated, "We are very excited to bring
Robotech to the big screen. There is a rich mythology that will be a great foundation for a sophisticated, smart and entertaining film."

that being said Maguire productions is doing the story. Tobby Maguire grew up probably hang off the tv waiting for that stirring orchastra music and film strip to start rolling every day. Most of the production staff too. Maguire has the franchise rights. He's got warner and harmony gold staff. Warner has done batman 4 or 5 times, spiderman?? the did that whole thing right?. Harmony has launch a successful robotech webpage, toy line, webstore, several animated remasters and new film.

They might Mess it up (as in Holliwoodize) it to the point that it is only to sell tickets and raze hype.
DooM is a prime example, where they sellout the story for hype, (like the genetic monsters instead of hell spawn.)
I'm a bit apprehensive about it.
Maguire picks his movies very carefully, and if he's going to be in it AND produce it, it could turn out to be good. I'm glad that the Transformers movie opened up the idea that big robots duking it out in our world isn't a bad idea.
