Columbia Sets Sail for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Source:  The Hollywood Reporter
Uncharted: Drake's FortuneColumbia is adapting the action-adventure video game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune into a feature film with Kyle Ward set to write the adaptation, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The story follows a descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, a treasure hunter named Nate Drake who believes he has learned the whereabouts of El Dorado, the fabled South American golden city, from a cursed golden statue. The search becomes competitive when a rival hunter joins the fray, then is racheted up several notches when creatures -- actually mutated descendants of Spaniards and Nazis -- begin attacking those hoping to learn the treasure's true secrets.

The game, from Sony Computer Entertainment, sold 1 million copies in the first 10 weeks of its release at the end of 2007.

No production date has been set.

Yeah because apparently the game that they are basing it off, he played the role of the character in the game.

But apparently the film was meant to be done by John Woo, i heard he dropped it, a while back while promoting Red Cliff

Damn, Johnson's getting in all the video game films. I hear he's signed up to play a role in Spy Hunter.

Ok even though this article aint about Gears Of War, but still this is game to film adaptation related news.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is apparently set to be penned as the main character within the Gears Of War movie, this is according to Chris Morgan, who is screenwriting the he has listed Johnson as the lead role on the .

I read this in a 360 mag today, noit sure if its new news or old but it was in the current issue , so i'd thought i'd share it.

Sparky, I don't know what you've heard but if you think this is going to be a big budget movie with big A list actors then your going to be very disappointed. There has been only one movie with a budget over 70 mil and that was both Tomb Raider movies. Uncharted is not that well known to put a big budget on it and i doubt any big time movie star is going to do that, so Cooper would be a great choice.
KrazyKlown, you are crazy if you think Dicaprio will even think twice about taking this role.

Either bradley cooper or Keanu reeves... I mean c'mon they both sort of resemble the game's main dude- Keanu even more than normal though!!!

I just think he's got the look but not too "A List" for most of the budget of the film going on his paycheck. You need someone recognisable but not too famous. You need the movie to be about the story, not the actor playing the leading role. Thats why Star Trek worked so well, the original rumored line up of Matt Damon as Kirk would have had a totally different outcome. Films like Xmen and Spiderman worked because the actors were fairly unknown, as soon as they became household names, they get paid ridiculous amounts of money so the movie has a big name but the outcome is 9 times out of 10 disappointing.

Bradley Cooper has also done some horror and drama, not just comedy. He did star in Midnight Meat Train.

Cool game, but I'd rather see a Gears of War or Bioshock movie get made first.

Or how about Bradley Cooper?

I'd say Josh Duhamel or Mark Walhberg, could pull it off.

Also at Avalanche, i'm not sure on Alone In The Dark, but Street Fighter can be adapted to film very well, if only Hollywood would learn something from the people that do the anime version to Street Fighter
Also i'm pretty interested in hearing your cast list, since you chose them more than a year ago.

But i wonder will this Kyle Ward dude get this project off the ground?

I've never played this game, but i've seen clips. Someone tell me what's the difference from this and Tomb Raider, it looks like the same thing.

I still think David Boreanez (Angel, Bones) would be a great choice for Nathan! He can pull off that kind of humor that Drake is known for! :)

Hell, he even kinda looks like him! :D

i looked at the pic and Wahlberg came to mind first, but the actor gonna have to do some shooting, jumping, leaping, has to be a funny guy or witty, the comments Drake has are classic lol

Yer, i like Mark Wahlberg for the role, good one. I think Keanu Reeves is not the right actor for this role, in fact i think it would be a big mistake. Cant wait though

keanu reeves is a horrible choice lol, obviously they gonna get an actor who resembles him and that can be Mark wahlberg, he buffer then Keanu, can act a bit better

Its a tough choice between Keanu Reeves or someone who can actually act better than a plank of wood!

Video game movies suck because hollywood picks the worst moview to adapt. of course Alone in the dark, and Street Fighter will fail. THEY ARE MADE TO BE GAMES, NOT MOVIES!

Uncharted is gonna be full of awesomeness! they bettter get the casting correct, because i already picked the leading roles 13months ago!
  (Delete)
June 26th, 2009 7:58am
That would be sweet. But it's another potential video game adaption let-down. :P
