Columbia pictures has recently signed a deal with Julia Roberts to star in and produce the film adaptation of Margot Berwin's novel
Hothouse Flowers. According to
The Hollywood Reporter, the studio bought the rights to the novel, however, the project does not yet have a script due to the three-month-old writers strike.
Hothouse Flowers will star Roberts as a recently divorced woman who can't stand her job at a Manhattan ad agency and begins an adventure that takes her places she has never been. Roberts can currently be seen in
Charlie Wilson's War and has just finished production on the independent drama,
Fireflies in the Garden. As for Roberts' next project, she'll star in
Duplicity, along side Billy Bob Thornton, Clive Owen and Tom Wilkinson.
Production for
Hothouse Flowers is expected to start in 2009.
