Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs Tops the DVD Sales Charts
November 5th, 2009
It took some of DreamWorks Animation's most popular animals to take down the robots in disguise this week. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs took the top spot on both the DVD sales and rental charts, for the week ending November 1.Without a lot of competition on the charts, the animated hit's nearest competitor was last week's winner Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which slipped to second place in both the DVD sales and rental charts, but stayed atop the Blu-ray sales charts for a second consecutive week. The only notable new releases were the Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, which took third place in DVD sales, and the horror film Orphan, which took fourth place in sales and third in rentals.
While Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen did repeat atop the BD sales charts, Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs debuted in a strong second place, with 11% of its total sales in the high-def format, a very high percentage for an animated family film. Still, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen's BD sales accounted for 24% of the total sales in its second week on the shelves.
