Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Outselling Star Trek Tickets

Source:  Fandango
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen doesn't open till next week (June 24th), but as of this morning, the film already represents 45% of ticket sales on Fandango, the nation's leading moviegoer destination.

The film is currently outpacing this summer's Star Trek movie and the original Transformers in advance ticket sales on Fandango at the same point in those films' sales cycles (one week before release date).

"For nearly two years - since the last TransformersTransformers opened - this new movie has been one of the most highly-anticipated films among fans on our site," says Rick Butler, Chief Operating Officer of Fandango. "Tickets for the new Transformers are already selling fast, so moviegoers should plan on buying their tickets in advance, as many showtimes are certain to sell out next week."

Fandango has surveyed nearly 2,000 moviegoers planning to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Among the findings:

- 88% of respondents said they are fans of director Michael Bay; 66% of them picked Transformers as their favorite Bay film.
- 77% of respondents say they were fans of Transformers when they were kids; 68% of those fans watched the cartoon series, while 61% played with the toys.
- 45% picked Optimus Prime as their favorite Transformer; 21% picked Bumblebee; 4% picked Megatron.
- 62% of respondents are 18-34 years old; 63% are male.

In a separate survey on Fandango, 36% of moviegoers picked Transformers star Megan Fox as the sexiest female star of the summer. For the complete list of moviegoer picks for "The Top 10 Sexiest Summer Stars."

Not all sequels are disappointing...there's more "threequels"(Spider-Man 3, X3, Superman 3, Batman Forever) that are the disappointing ones.

Spider-Man 2, X2, Terminator 2, Superman II, Aliens, The Dark Knight, The Empire Strikes Back...all considered superior to the original by the majority of people.

I'm not surprised one bit on how well these tickets are selling. This movie's gonna rock harder than the first one!

I guess the danger with this sequel is that when the first one arrived everyone was amazed at how good the robots were in terms of CGI; now we all got over it. So, what more is there to expect? Not much... But then again sequels are always a bit disapointing so I won't be surprised.

Even M.Bay has stated that he's tired of all this explosion shit. He plans to do a movie which doesn't have any explosions.

Also STar Trek is mentioned in the article you spaz! Just go away coz no one cares what you think. Transformers 2 will be amazing - it will be either 1st or 2nd best grossing film this year and the story will be cool, emotional and explosive. Go away NewKill200 no one cares!!!!

I'm not saying that the story should be deep. Hell look at Terminator. I love that movie, but the plot wasn't deep at all, but there was a decent one. I'm sorry but I've never seen so many explosion and so much action going on to the point where i actually feel asleep. The action is nothing new. All they add are CG robots and explode around them.

Newkill, I agree with ya, the Decepticons were hard to tell apart, mainly because Starscream and Megatron looked way too similiar in my opinion. Honestly, they should made Starscream like a dark red at least, like he is in the cartoons (well a red color not a dark red) but I think a dark tone of red would make him stand out cause when he was flying and Megatron flies you kinda get confused. I mean, I have watched the movie a bunch of times so you can tell who's who, but the first time around it was kinda confusing in the downtown scene (which is the coolest part of the movie). Starscream has huge shoulders (wings) and Megatron is more custom spirally metal pieces connected to each other, but they shouldn't have made Megatron be an alien jet, cause it made you confused when Starscream shows up near the roof scene (cause he's a jet like the cartoon). I don't remember the plot of the cartoons either, but I still liked them. It's like my life long dream thing to have things from my childhood brought up to the big screen in an adult manner. Tranformers was for everyone kind of film. It has a hot girl in it who he wants to bang and then there are Tranformers lol. How could you make a more believable plot with giant robots? I mean, the idea of just that is corny sounding by itself. I was surprised they pulled it off. I was entertained the entire film, it has action, comedy, and heart. Why does it need to be more than that? You can't have a deep story about giant robots lol. The heart moments like when BumbleBee is getting sprayed/frozen and he reaches out to Shia and he has the saddest look on his face that made your gf say "aww". And when he loses his legs as well. The movie was about how undifferent we really are to their race and that there is good in all of us. A simple yet stylish good vs evil movie.

who cares if its outselling star trek, what does that mean, we aleady know it's going to make a killing on opening weekend and overall, will prolly be top grossing. however, im not so sure it will make more than the first most sequels dont usually make more than the first, there are some exceptions of course.

This is a sad news.
ROTF is going to be more insulting and depravated than the 1st one, yet it'll cash even more.
This means they're going to make more movies 'til Bayformers finally stops.
Maybe in 10 years we can have a real respecting G1 adaptation.

My comments by the way are for US gross only...I was not talking overseas, etc. I don't see anyway that Pothead will outgross Transformers 2 in the US. Won't even be close. That is what I am betting my money on!

3 months ago terminator and wolverine were going to be huge. now they are just as dissapointing as watching a turd float in a toilet bowl. Anyone who said any different was condemned to hell for all eternity. its not as if i think that this wont make money or will not be good, but the summer has been really lackluster, so people are just hoping to see something worth seeing this summer (star trek excluded which has done well, and recieved well but now seems to have worn off with many saying it was too sexy for star trek). I was suprised by the first, not being a fan of bay's and hope this is good, but so far the summer has heard nothing but "thud" from giant bombs....---> cue to toilet flushing.

This guy shoots too fucking close. Can anyone tell who's who when the Autofucks and Dipshitbots are fighting. It's like their colors disappear and all you see are silver things colliding. The only M.Bay movies I enjoy are Bad Boys 1 and 2.

Transformers 2 is going to be a huge success. Newkill, while I do value your opinion, I doubt anyone goes into a M. Bay flim excitied about the "story." M. Bay is the King of action and the special effects in Transformers 2 look flawless. Seeing the Autobots and the Desepticons going at it on the big screen was kick ass. I'm not going to spend $10 expecting an award winning performance, I going to have a hell of a good time.

Lol, Come on Chad, is that a joke. Loving Transformers does not show that you have good taste. It shows that you like dumbass movies. And you said it right as well, it's a childhood thing. I'm too fucking old for that shit. If i was younger, yes this would appeal to me but now, Hell No, Fuck no. Give me a fucking story. I love explosions in movies as much as the next person, but if there's no goal then fuck it. I bet if you would go ask Michael Bay right now, what the plot of the new Transformers movie. He'll look at you and say "The fucking plot is making myself some fucking money you idiot. I'm getting paid 75 million to throw this shit out."

Btw newkill, it's called GOOD TASTE man. I know you have a few good ones (for example Terminator etc), so I really don't know why you don't like Tranformers so much. It's a childhood thing for me, it's kinda like us who like X-Men and Spiderman in a way, it's a childhood thing man.
